Los venezolanos somos gente trabajadora y capaz. Más del 50% de quienes hemos tenido que salir de nuestro país por persecución o disidencia somos graduados universitarios. Dejamos nuestra tierra buscando una oportunidad para sobrevivir.
Yo soy abogado, con cinco años de experiencia, y lo dejé todo para empezar de nuevo. Con sueños, pero también con una gran depresión, mi esposa y yo comenzamos haciendo pequeños trabajos en Estados Unidos. Desde que llegamos, no hemos hecho otra cosa que trabajar, pagar impuestos, disfrutar de ambientes laborales maravillosos y vivir. Tuvimos un hijo, y hoy él tiene la ventaja de ser ciudadano de este país.
En este tiempo, nos hemos educado, hemos ganado premios y llevamos una vida promedio, pero mejor que la de mucha gente que conocemos. No tenemos lujos, solo una vida tranquila.
Mi esposa es una cocinera excepcional; muchas personas han probado su comida y le han agradecido por su dedicación y atención al detalle. Por mi parte, descubrí aquí mi pasión por la ilustración, la pintura y el dibujo. He pagado mis estudios y sigo aprendiendo, creciendo.
Así es como le agradecemos a este país todo lo que nos ha dado: dando lo mejor de nosotros para hacerlo aún más grande y maravilloso. Nos sentimos orgullosos de estar aquí, impresionados por la calidez de su gente y por las oportunidades de crecimiento personal y profesional que ofrece. Este país representa un futuro para nuestro hijo, y aspiro a que él tenga las oportunidades que a nosotros nos fueron negadas.
Después de tantos días de noticias llenas de incertidumbre y dudas, seguimos haciendo lo que mejor sabemos hacer: trabajar duro, demostrar que somos gente buena, que paga impuestos y que se siente feliz de hacerlo. Gente que no para, pero que tampoco busca lo fácil ni lo regalado. Gente dispuesta a contribuir con el crecimiento de este país, nuestro nuevo hogar.
Tenemos miedo, lloramos, pero seguimos adelante. Estados Unidos es nuestro hogar ahora, pero Venezuela siempre será nuestra raíz, la razón de quienes somos y la diversidad que, en parte, hace de este país un lugar hermoso.
Hice esta pintura para que nunca olvidemos de dónde venimos, pero también para reconocer que Estados Unidos me dio la oportunidad de hacerla. Me permitió crecer como persona y como ser humano.
Soy quien soy porque ambos países me moldearon. Y eso es lo hermoso de vivir.
Para ti, , que amas hacer feliz a la gente. Todos los días me haces feliz, y por eso siempre estaré agradecido.
Y para ti, Benjamín, papá te ama y espera que crezcas como un gran hombre, sin miedos, y que contribuyas a hacer de este país un lugar aún mejor. Tus papás venezolanos te aman más que a sus propias vidas.

Venezuelans are hardworking and capable people. More than 50% of those of us who had to leave our country due to persecution or dissent are university graduates. We left our homeland in search of a chance to survive.
I am a lawyer with five years of experience, and I left everything behind to start over. With dreams—but also with a deep sadness—my wife and I began by doing small jobs in the United States. Since the day we arrived, all we have done is work, pay taxes, enjoy incredible work environments, and live. We had a son, and today he has the privilege of being a citizen of this country.
Over time, we have continued to educate ourselves, we have won awards, and we have built an average life—better than that of many people we know. No luxuries, just a peaceful life.
My wife is an exceptional cook; many people have tasted her food and thanked her for the care and attention she puts into every detail. As for me, I discovered my passion for illustration, painting, and drawing here. I have paid for my studies and continue learning and growing.
This is how we show our gratitude to this country—by giving the best of ourselves to make it even greater and more extraordinary. We are proud to be here, amazed by the kindness of its people and the opportunities it offers for personal and professional growth. This country represents a future for our son, and I hope he will have the opportunities that were denied to us.
After so many days filled with uncertainty and doubt, we keep doing what we have always done: working hard, proving that we are good people, paying taxes, and being happy to do so. People who don’t stop, but also don’t seek shortcuts or handouts. People willing to contribute to the growth of this country, our new home.
We are afraid, we cry, but we keep going. The United States is our home now, but Venezuela will always be our roots—the reason we are who we are, and part of the diversity that makes this country so beautiful.
I created this painting so we never forget where we come from, but also as a way to say that the United States gave me the opportunity to make it. It allowed me to grow as a person and as a human being.
I am who I am because both countries shaped me. And that is the beauty of life.
