New Series:
Intimate conversation
Oil on wood, 48x48
2022
I wanted to share this new series of paintings I’ve been working on based on my sculptural practice. During the pandemic I embarked on the challenge of making large outdoor sculptures. These pieces were mainly based on my paintings. The goal was to bring these characters alive.
After two years of working on them, it was time to stop and contemplate on these objects, which have been the focus of my obsession for so long. As I meditated and gazed at them, a new source of admiration arose, and so I decided to reverse course and start a new series analyzing the sculptures and their place of dwelling. These moments of intimate conversation with them were like a dance, where my gaze would blur the background, and then certain details would come into focus. In this back-and-forth visual dance, the object would separate from its space and suspend outside of its sphere ushering all kinds of possibilities. In the blurs I imagined these magical architectural landscapes, these dreams of fantastical outdoor spaces where they are wishing to be. These paintings are incantations wising their destinations into being.
