Just gonna drop this here~for a moment...
Because of the uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Dynamite Lunchbox Entertainment of Orlando is seeking African American/Black females 25-50 with strong singer/dancer/actor skills to Understudy for an upcoming production of it's international hit off-Broadway show, JOSEPHINE.
Production Details:
Josephine is a one-woman biographical musical about the life of the legendary Josephine Baker. It will be presented in the new outdoor courtyard venue of the Lowndes Shakespeare Center in conjunction with Orlando Shakespeare Theater.
Role: Josephine Baker (understudy)
Josephine Baker (1906-1975) was the first African American international superstar. She achieved great fame and success after moving to France in the early 20’s. She starred alongside white romantic leading men in films in the 30’s, had multiple in*******al marriages and homosexual relationships, and performed in men’s clothing before the term “drag” existed in the lexicon. She was a spy for the French Resistance, a civil rights activist, and the mother of 12 adopted children from 4 continents. Her success in France and Europe often gave her the opportunity to live freely without the racial oppression of her home nation, though she never stopped yearning for acceptance in America.
Rehearsal and Production Dates and location:
The show will be presented at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center (812 E Rollins St, Orlando, FL) from February 17th-March 21st, with a possible extension from March 24th-April 4th. Performances are Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30pm, with matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 2pm.
Rehearsals are TBD, but tech week will be February 13-16.
Compensation:
Understudy pays a flat stipend of $500 for a minimum of 5 rehearsals, with an additional $150 per performance should the lead performer become ill or injured..
