The Orlando Philharmonic is Central Florida’s resident professional orchestra, comprised of accomplished musicians recruited from around the world. With more than 125 performances each year, the orchestra provides captivating musical experiences to people of all ages, presenting classical and popular music performances, staged opera productions, and educational programs throughout the community.

Please join us in welcoming Gustavo Barreda as the new Principal Percussionist of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra! 🥁

A native of Florida, Gustavo has previously performed with the Portland Symphony Orchestra, the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, and the New World Symphony in Miami, Florida, among others. Most recently, Gustavo had the privilege of sharing the stage with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in a side-by-side performance led by conductor Ken-David Masur.

He also has spent summers as a percussion fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and the Eastern Music Festival. Throughout his career, Gustavo has performed under the baton of notable conductors such as Andris Nelsons, Marin Alsop, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and many more.

Before joining the OPO, Gustavo studied at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music in Houston, Texas, under the instruction of Matthew Strauss of the Houston Symphony. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Florida State University and a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening weekend of our 2026/2027 Season with Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue! 🥂🎹

Conducted by Music Director Eric Jacobsen, the concerts featured Mathis Picard performing Ellington’s New World A-Comin’, Dan Tepfer performing Ravel’s Piano Concerto, and Thomas Enhco performing Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Each piece was interwoven with Stravinsky’s Petrushka, with dancers Kate Gardinier and Kenna Gold beautifully leading the transitions between works.
