Pegasus PlayLab 2026’s full developmental production, RACCOON PLAY, by SMJ, opens tomorrow at UCF’s Black Box theatre. Come support bold new work!

We’re proud to be part of a community that champions new plays and the artists who create them. 🎭

This week, we’re celebrating “Raccoon Play” by SMJ, running June 11–14 as part of Pegasus PlayLab at UCF. This new play was originally discovered through PlayFest before continuing its development journey! 👏

Directed by Nick Bazo, who also directed “Anna in the Tropics” at Orlando Shakes last season, Raccoon Play is a wildly inventive political satire that follows six Millennials awaiting election results in rural Ohio while, in a parallel storyline, a literal raccoon president grapples with unrest, conspiracy, and a looming insurrection within the Danville Raccoon Club. 🤠

Funny, sharp, absurd, and timely, this is exactly the kind of bold new work that Pegasus PlayLab was created to support. 🦝

Be part of the process of new play development at Pegasus PlayLab 2026, May 29-June 14 at UCF's campus!

UCF's Pegasus PlayLab is dedicated to developing new plays by emerging playwrights. Each summer, the festival provides students and Orlando audiences the rare opportunity to experience plays in progress. Audiences are able to contribute feedback through talkbacks with the playwright, actors and creative team.

“Without knowing how a play impacts a live audience, you don’t know if the play works,” says SMJ, one of this year's participating playwrights. “New work can’t grow without opportunities like this.”

Students in Theatre UCF’s theatre for young audiences and communities class learn to customize theatre experiences for children and community members in a variety for settings — including performing bedside for hospitalized children.

Sage Tokach, theatre professor and director of the Jeanette M. Gould Traveling Theater project, said:

“The main thing that we are offering is a moment of joy, a potential distraction, an opportunity for play in a space where patients usually don't have a lot of autonomy. There are so many things that are beyond their control. Our job is to offer the opportunity to engage in something pleasant as a moment of escape.”

The Jeanette M. Gould Traveling Theater project, funded by a grant given to UCF by the Gould family, connects the School of Performing Arts with the College of Nursing to bring theatre into hospitals.

The giggles and laughter of patients filled Nemours Children's Hospital's lobby on Tuesday as UCF theater students brought the characters Squiggle and Square to life in their performance of “Pen

👏Theatre UCF’s production of LEGALLY BLONDE was a huge hit at UCF Celebrates the Arts 2026!

We’ll never forget the way the audience gasped with delight whenever the dog actors took the stage, expressed awe at the robot dogs and tech elements, and truly engaged with the students’ performances.

But most importantly, we’ll remember how incredibly the students, faculty and staff came together to put up an amazing show 💖

High-energy performances. Bold creativity. A surprise robot cameo. Legally Blonde reimagined theater through the lens of technology — blending disciplines to create something entirely new.
