It’s been 10 years of re-creating the RetroRev brand. From deciding what type of music I wanted to put out to the public, to image. Many artists when developing their art come across a challenge that creates doubt in their ability to go all the way. For some it’s income. For others it’s their perception of their own skill level. For me it was age. Hip-hop has always been seen as a young person’s game. Once you are of a certain age, it’s not seen for you. Like a sport actually. Where other genres such as Rock and Roll, the artist or band can play forever. I fought against that for years. And I finally sat back and told myself, “I belong here.” And the premise behind that statement came from simply realizing that I was prepared. That was building towards a goal. That I had substance and something to say. From there I created the #Ibelonghere movement. No matter what obstacle is in your way, know that if you truly believe in what you are doing, the only person you need to prove that to is yourself. Others will come around in time. Enjoy the journey, work hard and stay present. And when you start to doubt yourself, take a deep breath, look in the mirror and shout:
I BELONG HERE!
