I'm trying to grow as a person, in the wake of great sadness, for the loss of my mom and best friend. My therapist has offered many tools that have helped. One of them is that I honor the memory of them by focusing on my life goals, using the same way that I determined what major to take in college, using an accounting of debts and credits for any projects that I want to accelerate. (I chose 3d Artist over Finance).
First I define the top 4 goals and then fill out a spreadsheet to evaluate which one to go with. It's not to determine a major, pick up a new hobby, etc. it's to figure out what I want to do in the next decade that will most benefit my fellow humans and my family. I want to honor my Mom and Andrew's memory by pushing forward, in great kindness and love. Of course, I will factor in things like time value, ROI, and other important aspects of engineering and financing for these kinds of projects to turn into something that will last beyond the time that I'm pushing it forward. There is a bit of social inertia that has to be involved in these choices, but I'll factor that into my decision too.
