🎡⚡ LOCKOUT/TAGOUT SAVES LIVES ⚡🎡

In the amusement industry, we work around powerful machinery every single day. Hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, rotating equipment, stored energy systems… all of it demands respect.

That’s why Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) is not just a policy sitting in a binder collecting popcorn dust. It is one of the most important safety practices we have.

Before maintenance, inspections, adjustments, or troubleshooting begin: 🔒 Disconnect the power
🏷️ Apply proper lockout/tagout devices
⚠️ Verify zero energy state
👷 Protect yourself and everyone around you

One skipped step can change a life forever. No repair is “quick enough” to gamble with safety.

The rides may create thrills for the public, but there should never be surprises for the crews working behind the scenes.

A properly applied lock and tag is a small action with heavyweight consequences. Stay sharp, stay disciplined, and make sure everyone goes home safely at the end of the route. 🎠🛠️

This Memorial Day, NAARSO honors and remembers the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

As we gather with family and friends this holiday weekend, we also recognize the importance of creating safe environments for our communities to enjoy. From amusement parks and water parks to fairs and family entertainment venues, safety remains a shared responsibility.

We thank all who have served, and we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

As temperatures begin climbing this summer, workplace hydration becomes more important than ever throughout the amusement industry. From ride operators and maintenance crews to food service and game personnel, long hours in the heat can quickly lead to fatigue, reduced awareness, and serious health risks.

Staying hydrated helps improve focus, reaction time, and overall safety for both employees and guests. Encourage crews to drink water regularly, take cooling breaks when possible, and watch for signs of heat stress in fellow team members.

A safe work environment starts with a healthy team. Stay cool, stay alert, and stay hydrated this summer. 🎡💧

May is National Water Safety Month and is a perfect time to reinforce safe practices across aquatic environments, from waterparks to resort pools.

Operators and safety professionals to take a closer look at the Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC), developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as a key resource for improving water safety.

The MAHC provides science-based guidance on:
• Lifeguard training and supervision
• Water quality management and illness prevention
• Facility design and maintenance
• Risk management and emergency response

Whether you operate a wave pool, splash pad, or aquatic play structure, aligning with MAHC recommendations helps reduce risk and protect guests and staff.

This May, take time to review your aquatic safety programs, refresh staff training, and ensure your operations reflect current best practices.

Safe water is smart business and it starts with proactive safety leadership.

🛑 National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls | May 4–8

Falls remain one of the leading causes of serious injuries and fatalities, but they are preventable.

The OSHA National Safety Stand-Down is a chance for employers and teams to pause work and focus on fall prevention, whether for a few minutes or a full safety session.

During your Stand-Down, consider:
✔️ Hosting a toolbox talk on fall hazards
✔️ Inspecting harnesses, guardrails, and fall protection systems
✔️ Reviewing rescue and emergency plans
✔️ Engaging your team in hazard identification and feedback

From construction sites to amusement parks and traveling shows, anyone working at height should take part. A simple conversation can make a critical difference.

OSHA provides free resources to help you plan and lead your Stand-Down:

🌡️☀️ Heatstroke Prevention Day – May 1 ☀️🌡️

As temperatures rise, so do the risks. For amusement parks, water parks, and traveling shows, heat exposure can impact ride operators, maintenance teams, and staff working long hours outdoors or in hot indoor environments.

Heatstroke is preventable but only with the right precautions in place.

👷‍♂️ Protect your team by:
• Providing easy access to water and encouraging frequent hydration
• Scheduling regular breaks in shaded or cooled areas
• Monitoring for signs of heat illness (dizziness, confusion, nausea)
• Adjusting work schedules during peak heat hours
• Training supervisors and staff to respond quickly to heat-related emergencies

📋 The National Emphasis Program – Outdoor and Indoor Heat-Related Hazards reinforces the importance of identifying and addressing heat risks across all work environments, something the amusement industry must take seriously as we head into peak season.

Safety doesn’t stop at the ride, it extends to the people who keep operations running every day.

Stay alert. Stay hydrated. Stay safe.

🦺🌍 World Day for Safety and Health at Work 🌍🦺

Today is a reminder that safety is everyone’s responsibility, every ride, every shift, every guest interaction.

In the amusement industry, protecting workers means more than compliance, it means creating a culture where operators, technicians, and staff feel empowered to speak up, stay alert, and look out for one another.

From ride inspections and lockout/tagout procedures to heat stress awareness and proper training, every step we take helps prevent injuries and saves lives.

At NAARSO, we’re committed to advancing safety through education, certification, and sharing best practices across the industry.

👷‍♂️ Take a moment today to:
• Review your safety procedures
• Check in with your team
• Reinforce training and communication
• Identify opportunities for improvement

A strong safety culture doesn’t happen by accident, it’s built every day.

🚧 National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 20–24) 🚧

This year’s theme, “Safe Actions Save Lives,” is a reminder that every decision matters, especially in and around work zones.

For the amusement industry, this goes beyond highways. Crews, operators, and transportation teams regularly move rides, equipment, and trailers from site to site, often through active work zones.

Key reminders:
• Slow down and stay alert - work zones change quickly
• Eliminate distractions, especially mobile devices
• Watch for workers, flaggers, and shifting traffic patterns
• Be patient - everyone is working to get home safely

Work zone safety is a shared responsibility. Whether you're behind the wheel of a personal vehicle or hauling equipment between locations, your actions protect lives.
