Opera Orlando

Opera Orlando We present high-caliber, innovative productions, events, and education programs. It was from the latter of the three that Opera Orlando was forged.

In January 2016, Opera Orlando raised its banner with the goal of becoming the standard bearer for the art form in central Florida. The region had been well-served for over a half of a century by the Orlando Opera and then, in 2009, by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and the Florida Opera Theatre. Opera Orlando's spirit of collaboration, innovation, and community is truly what sets it apart. Th

e company seeks to continue to collaborate dynamically throughout the region with other arts groups, performers, artists, and musicians. In addition, the Opera seeks to maintain and enhance its ongoing artistic partnerships with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orlando Ballet as all prepare for the opening of Steinmetz Hall at Dr. Phillips Center in the spring of 2021. This will ensure the production of world-class, cutting edge, innovative presentations that will continue to attract and captivate diverse audiences within the community, nationally, and from around the world.

FLYING DUTCHMAN is coming to Orlando!! πŸ›³βš“πŸš’

Opera Orlando presents its first Wagner production β€” and Wagner does not arrive quietly... This cast and creative team is on πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ for three performances only on January 22, 23 and 24.

Baritone Darren Drone β€” praised by Opera News for his "gorgeously warm tone and deep resonance" β€” returns to Orlando in the title role, joined by German soprano Johanna Will making her Company debut as Senta, a role she has performed around the world, with two Orlando favorites returning to the MainStage, tenor Brendan Boyle as Eric and bass-baritone Nathan Stark as Daland. Conductor Geoffrey Loff returns to the Opera Orlando podium. Production concept and stage direction by Grant Preisser.

The Dutchman is a sailor cursed to sail the seas for eternity, permitted ashore once every seven years to find a woman willing to be faithful unto death. The music has such raw power that it feels less like something composed than something elemental, dredged up from the ocean floor. When the Dutchman's theme rises from the pit and fills Steinmetz Hall, the whole room will be caught in its wake "...ooooh, OPERA!”

MADAME BUTTERFLY is coming to Orlando!! πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹

Puccini's most devastatingly beautiful work comes to Steinmetz Hall at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts with a truly dynamite cast and creative team for three performances on October 2, 3 and 4.

Soprano Yeawon Jun makes her Opera Orlando debut in the title role, joined by tenor Isaac Hurtado as Lt. Pinkerton, Grammy Award winning baritone Gabriel Preisser as Sharpless, and mezzo soprano Yoojin Lee as Suzuki. Kalena Bovell β€” the 2024 Sphinx Medal of Excellence recipient and the first Black woman to conduct an opera in Canada β€” makes her Company debut on the podium with stage direction by Rebecca A. Herman in her own Company debut.

Cio-Cio San marries an American naval officer who almost immediately returns to the States. She waits three years β€” certain he will come back, but is she ready when he does. Puccini surrounds her story with music of such tenderness and such inevitability that audiences who have seen it a dozen times still find themselves undone by the final act. There is no preparation for what happens in that moment. There is only the music, the voice, and the whole room holding their breath "...ooooh, OPERA!”

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!! πŸŽ–πŸŽ–πŸŽ–

Today we honor and remember military personnel who died while serving in the armed forces. Their memory lives on and we can never say thank you enough for the men and women who gave the greatest sacrifice to serve our nation.

This past season, we presented ALL IS CALM and SILENT NIGHT extending free tickets to local veterans and military families. This truly was a small thing in the big picture of what our veterans and service men and women have done for us, but we were grateful to once again connect with our veteran community and honor them in this way.
