Is not just the liquid metal, but..
The most common part of the ps5 that generates overheating issues is the liquid metal.
And no wonders because it is the compound that is in charge of cooling the Apu, that is like the brain of the console, before they used thermal paste, but this liquid metal is supposed to be better at cooling than the thermal paste.
What happens? Why it gets dark? Why it oxidized?
Because intense thermal stress and hot spots physically break down the liquid metal, allowing the underlying gallium alloy to react with oxygen trapped inside the sealed chamber.
How to fix it?
Just take it for maintenance every 6months to 1 year.
Remember that is not the only thing. It can have dust covering the vents, or maybe a bad PSU, or a short on the board.
So what are you waiting for?
Is yours doing the same?
