Inktober day 21: Hero
Tasmanian Devil

Don’t let the cartoon fool you, real Tasmanian devils are pulling off one of nature’s best comeback stories. A contagious facial cancer nearly wiped them out, and instead of disappearing, they’re evolving resistance to it. Saving your own species? Now THAT’s a hero arc.
And pound for pound, that famous snarl packs the strongest bite of any mammal on Earth.

Inktober Day 20: “Lounge” 🌭
Long & Lounging!
Dachshunds were bred in Germany to hunt badgers, “Dachs” means badger, “Hund” means dog… and that long body on those tiny legs was built for tunneling into dens. These days the tunnels are couch cushions and the only thing being hunted is the warm spot under the blanket.

Inktober Day 19: “Confused” 🤔 Hoppily Confused!

Meet the wallaby — nature’s most relatable marsupial. Is it a small kangaroo? A big rabbit? Honestly, even the wallaby isn’t sure, and that’s the whole vibe.

Inktober Day 18: “Flightless” ⭐
Flightless But Fabulous!
Meet the bat star, the sea star named for wings it doesn’t have. Those webbed arms look like a bat’s wings, but this Pacific-coast cruiser is 100% flightless. It gets around just fine on hundreds of tube feet, thank you very much.
Who needs flying when you’re this fabulous on the seafloor? 💫

Inktober Day 17: “Contraption” 🐩
The Fancy Contraption!
Meet the poodle — proof that the fanciest haircut in dogdom was actually brilliant engineering. That sculpted continental clip was designed for cold-water duck retrieval: shaved down to cut drag, with puffs left over the joints and chest for warmth. A swimming machine disguised as a fashion statement.
Never underestimate a well-built contraption. ✂️

Inktober Day 16: “Gangly” 📏
Long Story Short!
Meet Cameroceras — the Ordovician ocean’s ultimate long boy. This straight-shelled cephalopod cruised the ancient seas trailing a shell up to 20 feet long. All shell, all vibes, absolutely no thoughts.
Long story short: gangly is gorgeous. 📏

Inktober Day 15: “Hooray” 😁
Quokka Hooray!
Meet the quokka — the pint-sized Western Australian marsupial famous for looking like it’s perpetually celebrating. About the size of a house cat, nocturnal, and able to survive on almost no water, the quokka’s signature grin earned it the title of world’s happiest animal (and undisputed champion of the selfie).
Some animals just radiate main-character energy. Hooray for that. 🎉

Inktober Day 14: “Lady” 🐶
Lady Luck!
Meet the cocker spaniel, the merry little flushing dog with ears so long and silky they deserve their own fan club. Bred to flush game birds from the brush, cockers are professional optimists: wagging tails, soulful eyes, and a nose that never clocks out.
And when the prompt is “Lady,” there’s really only one answer, the spaghetti-dinner icon herself. 🍝

Inktober Day 13: “Flimsy” ⭐⭐⭐
Split Happens!
Meet the asterina star — a sea star so small it could sit on your fingertip, and so tough it reproduces by tearing itself in half. Each half just... regrows into a whole new star. Flimsy? Never met her.

Inktober Day 12: “Toss” 🪂
Just Glide With It!
Toss your worries aside and glide, that’s the sugar glider motto. This pocket-sized possum can soar 150 feet between trees!
