🌊 THROWBACK: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Submarine Voyage ⚓️

Who remembers setting sail aboard the Nautilus at Magic Kingdom?

Opening on October 14, 1971, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea quickly became one of Fantasyland’s most distinctive experiences, taking guests on an underwater adventure inspired by Captain Nemo and the world of Jules Verne.

The attraction remained part of Magic Kingdom for nearly 23 years before closing on September 5, 1994. For many guests, the massive lagoon, iconic submarines and unique atmosphere made it an unforgettable piece of Walt Disney World history.

It was also one of those attractions that seemed to inspire strong opinions. Some absolutely loved it, while others were more than happy to stay on dry land. 😂

⚓️ Did you ever experience 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea? What do you remember most about it, and would you like to see an attraction like this return someday?

🏔️✨ FROM CONCEPT TO REALITY: PISTON PEAK NATIONAL PARK

These two early development images offer a fascinating look at two very different areas of Piston Peak National Park coming to Magic Kingdom.

The first is a loose Imagineering sketch exploring the land’s Ride Rally setting, with the Piston Peak National Park sign, rally banners, pathways and rustic park-inspired architecture. The second is a much more developed computer model of the geyser fields, filled with colorful thermal pools, rugged terrain and towering bursts of water.

Walt Disney Imagineering has shared that it was important for Piston Peak to feel like a true continuation of Frontierland, even if the Cars characters were removed from the picture. These images really show that philosophy at work, building the environment and sense of place first, then weaving the characters and story into it.

✏️ From rough sketches to digital environments, Piston Peak is getting closer to reality. 🏔️💦🏁

👽 WHO REMEMBERS ALIEN ENCOUNTER?!

There was truly nothing else quite like ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter at Magic Kingdom.

From the moment you entered X-S Tech and met S.I.R. and poor Skippy, you knew this wasn't going to be your typical Tomorrowland experience. Then came the main chamber… the restraints lowered, the lights went out and suddenly that alien was loose in the room. 😳

The sounds moving around you, the creature breathing down your neck, the unexpected sprays of water and those brief flashes where you could actually SEE what was in there made this one of the most intense experiences ever created for Magic Kingdom.

And today it feels especially fitting to remember Tim Curry, whose unmistakable voice brought S.I.R. to life in the attraction's preshow. Curry's incredible career reached across film, television, theater, animation and even a little corner of Tomorrowland. His voice and personality helped make S.I.R. a character Disney Parks fans still remember decades later. ❤️

Alien Encounter may be gone, but it certainly hasn't been forgotten.

👽 Did you ever experience Alien Encounter? What is the ONE moment from the attraction you remember most?

✨ 55 Magical Years! ✨

Walt Disney World has revealed its new 55th Anniversary logo as the Resort prepares to celebrate 55 years of magic on October 1! 🏰💫

The retro-inspired design brings a nostalgic touch to the celebration, with the “55” cleverly forming Mickey ears around the classic Walt Disney World globe. 🌎🐭

What do you think of the look? 💙

🖤 Remembering Tim Curry, who has passed away at the age of 80.

Disney Parks fans will always remember his unmistakable voice as S.I.R. in ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter at Magic Kingdom.

As the sarcastic X-S Tech robot demonstrating teleportation technology on poor Skippy, Curry brought the perfect mix of humor, theatricality and menace to one of Tomorrowland’s most memorable attractions.

Alien Encounter may be gone, but S.I.R. remains an unforgettable piece of Disney history.

Rest in peace, Tim Curry. 🖤

Today, we remember Dolly Parton and the incredible legacy she leaves behind. ❤️🕊️

Fresh from the Walt Disney World vault, we’re looking back at Dolly’s appearance during the resort’s 15th Anniversary Celebration in 1986, when she joined Mickey Mouse and a lineup of major entertainers to help mark the milestone.

By that point, Dolly had already become one of the most recognizable voices in music, but her career would continue to grow far beyond country music through film, television, songwriting and decades of philanthropy.

Her warmth, humor and unmistakable personality made her a true entertainment icon, and this moment at Walt Disney World is a special piece of that history to revisit today.

One EPCOT possibility I would personally love to see explored… 💙✨

I can’t help but imagine the former Wonders of Life pavilion welcoming Guests once again as a reimagined home for INNOVENTIONS. 💡🌐

With the previously announced PLAY! Pavilion concept no longer moving forward, I think this space could be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate innovation in a whole new way.

Interactive experiences, emerging technology and partnerships with leading electronics and technology brands could give Guests hands on looks at the latest gadgets, inventions and ideas shaping tomorrow. 📱✨

I think it could create an experience that continues to evolve while capturing that unmistakable EPCOT spirit of discovery.

Here’s a concept of what that future could look like. 👀

Would you like to see Innoventions return to EPCOT? 💙

There have been a lot of questions about the small black circles seen across the Maleficent coaster model following its reveal. 👀🏰✨

Those markings aren’t part of the attraction’s final design. They’re reference targets used during a process known as photogrammetry 📸💻, where a physical model is photographed from multiple angles so its shape, scale, and surface details can be accurately reconstructed and studied within a digital 3D environment.

The targets give the software consistent reference points across the model, helping align those images and understand the exact position and geometry of the surrounding structures, terrain, and architectural details. 🎯🖥️

From there, digital tools can give Imagineers another way to explore the environment, study sightlines, refine the relationship between the coaster and its surrounding landscape, and continue shaping the experience as the design evolves. 🎢🌲🏔️

The images here offer a simple example of how a handcrafted physical model can become part of a much larger digital design process. ✏️➡️🏰➡️💻

So yes, those little black circles really do have an important job. 👀🎯✨

🐉 An invitation awaits in Villains Land…

Here’s an early look at the model for the new Maleficent roller coaster coming to Magic Kingdom, offering a glimpse at the twisted landscape and enchanted briars that will surround this all-new adventure. 🎢💚

The story begins with an invitation from Maleficent herself to enter her fortress. Those daring enough to accept will be presented with a challenge: navigate through the enchanted briars surrounding her domain.

This early model offers just a first glimpse at how the attraction could bring that story to life, weaving riders through a dramatic and foreboding landscape on a journey deeper into Maleficent’s realm.

Would you dare accept her invitation? 😈
