Happy Thursday to everyone! Tomorrow is the Glenn County Arts and Culture’s very first Poetry Mic Night at Twisted Twigs here in Willows from 6pm to 8pm. If there’s a poem that speaks to your soul, please come and recite it!

The idea of the Poetry Mic Night happened when we had our first Poetry Out Loud event in Orland in January of this year. Poetry Out Loud is strictly for high school kids, but we saw the amount of joy it brought everyone to recite a poem that meant so much to them. It made the experience all the more special. So we decided to make an event that was for everyone to participate in.

It truly is amazing to see the magic that words alone can make people feel. If you really are thinking of reciting a poem, just go for it! If you’re interested to watch and enjoy, you can do that too. And maybe something will inspire you to want to look up a poem you like. Poems are a healthy and educational way of describing emotion and experiences in life.

💗 Remembering Dolly Parton: A Life of Art, Imagination & Heart 💗

The world lost an extraordinary artist yesterday.

Dolly Parton—singer, songwriter, storyteller, actress, creative visionary, philanthropist, and lifelong dreamer—passed away at the age of 80.

At Glenn County Arts & Culture, we remember Dolly not only for the music that became part of the soundtrack of generations, but for the way she used her creativity to connect people, inspire possibility, spread joy, and make a difference.

Dolly understood something that we hold close in the arts: creativity has the power to change lives.

She wrote songs that told honest stories. She brought characters to life on screen and stage. She built spaces where families could gather and dream. Through her Imagination Library, she put millions of books into the hands of children—turning imagination into opportunity. (The Guardian)

And perhaps most beautifully, Dolly never seemed to believe that success meant keeping the light for yourself.

She shared it.

She gave it.

She encouraged others to find their own.

Her legacy reminds us that art doesn’t have to simply be beautiful—it can be hopeful, inclusive, joyful, meaningful, and transformative.

🎶 A song can tell our story.
📚 A book can open a child’s world.
🎨 Art can give us a new way to see.
✨ Creativity can remind us to dream.
❤️ Kindness can turn a talent into a legacy.

Dolly Parton spent her life creating—and then using what she created to lift others.

That is a legacy worth celebrating.

🎶🍂 The Fall Season of Glenn Chorale is Beginning! 🍂🎶

There’s something special about hearing voices come together in harmony—and we’re excited to celebrate the return of Glenn Chorale for another season of beautiful music right here in our community!

Wonderful news for our Willows youth! 🏈📣

Glenn County Arts & Culture is proud to support the continued efforts of Willows Youth Football & Cheer! We’re excited to see this organization continue providing opportunities for local youth to participate, build friendships, learn teamwork, and be part of something positive in their community. 💙

They still need more players, though! Let’s continue spreading the word and encouraging families to get involved. Every share can help connect a young athlete with a team, teammates, and a great season.

Let’s show our Willows youth that Glenn County is behind them! 🙌🏈📣

We will have a season! 🏈💜💛

But we could still use more football athletes! If you’ve been thinking about signing up, now is the time to join us and be part of the team.

We also understand that financial concerns can sometimes make registration difficult. Please don’t let that stop you from reaching out. If you have questions or concerns about fees, please check in with our Treasurer or any Board Member. We are happy to talk with you and see how we can help.
