CALL FOR ENTRIES - Objects of Affection Still Life Art Exhibit
Showing August 1 – September 12

• July 18: Entry deadline

This art exhibit invites both 2D and 3D artists to share their best work depicting an arrangement of objects. The still life works can be traditional or contemporary in nature, with the content exhibiting everyday objects which are natural (e.g., flowers, plants, rocks, shells, etc.) or which are manufactured (e.g., bottles, glasses, pottery, books, jewelry, etc.). The subjects could range from a single object to a complex arrangement. No AI.

The exhibit will be judged by Glenn Bodish with awards presented at the reception on August 7.

The entry fee is $25 for members or $35 for non-members for up to two pieces per artist. Minimum overall size is 8” x 10” and maximum 60” x 60”. All frames must be wired for hanging. Pedestals are available for 3D work. Exhibited works will be considered for sale at the price indicated to include the CMAAA commission of 25% for any artwork sold.

Best of Show winner Timothy Griffith, for “Meg Riete’s Sunflower”. Presented at the 2nd Annual Around the Farm Art Exhibit Reception on June 12 at the Coliseum Museum in downtown Oregon, IL. And the red dot indicates the piece sold that night. Congratulations Tim!

Every June 14, Americans hang Old Glory to celebrate and remember the day the flag was born in Philadelphia on June 14, 1777. It was there that the Second Continental Congress passed a short resolution: "Resolved, that the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation officially establishing June 14 as Flag Day across the country.

And in 1949, President Harry S. Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14 as National Flag Day.

So now is the time for every American to raise the colors and remember what it represents.

Around the Farm Awards

Awards were presented at the opening reception on Friday, June 12, where judge Deb Cleary recognized the following artists. Best of Show to Timothy Griffith for the oil on canvas, “Meg Riete’s Sunflower”; 1st Place to Janet Cederlund for her watercolor, “Carefree Tree”; 2nd to Robert Krajecki for his oil on canvas, “Waiting for Spring”; 3rd to Jan Conkrite for her oil, “Before the Storm Began”;
And Honorable Mentions to Julie Kennelly for “Barnyard Pet Portraits” and Margi Forss for her acrylic “Barn Near Odell, Illinois”. In the photography category it was 1st Place to Joseph Popp for “After Harvest’; 2nd to Bob Cholke for “Farm on a Hill”; 3rd to Pam Hansen for “After the Work”; and an Honorable Mention to Bob Logdson for “Emmert’s Farm”.

The 2nd Annual Around the Farm Art Exhibit will be on display until Saturday, July 18 and celebrates farm life and highlights the importance of agriculture in our area. Judge: Deb Cleary
Debra Cleary is an artist and art educator. She has exhibited her artwork at local galleries and has been a participating artist at fundraisers. She creates abstract paintings that are multilayered, inspired by nature, and incorporate movement, textures, and colors. Debra received her Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Northern Illinois University and her Master of Art in Art Education from Eastern Illinois University. She has been an art educator in the Amboy, Illinois, school district for the past 29 years, has taught artists ages five to adult, and has been selected to present workshops for fellow art educators at the state and national levels.

The Coliseum Museum welcomes the artwork of Jan Cederlund & Jill Browne to our Feature Walls for the month of June.

Jan Cederlund is a lifelong artisan dabbler, picking up watercolor in only the last 10+ years. In 2017, with retirement looming, Jan began formal instruction with her now artistic mentor, Robert Krajecki, IWSA-TWSA, with whom she continues instruction to present day. Having worked in many different mediums, Jan believed that watercolor was her true calling and has spent many years developing her skills and talents. For Jan, watercolor is no longer a hobby, but a passion to carry her through the remaining decades.

As long as she can remember, Jill Browne has enjoyed sketching and painting what she has seen around her, encouraged and supported by family and friends along the way. She attended some oil painting lessons as a child and took an assortment of art classes in college, but any real education has come in later years through watercolor instruction that she has sought out locally. Jill’s preferred subject matter is still the world around her. She tries to depict a certain time, a place, a moment that has spoken to her in some way.
