Just Watching

Soft Pastel, 20'x14', Canson Mi-Teintes
This piece grew from watching children at the water during two of our trips. What stayed with me was their quiet focus, how everything just seemed to fall away. I wanted the painting to hold that sense of absorbed attention and curiosity.

What Legacy Keeps

Soft paste, 11x18, UART 400
We have a very aged birdhouse in our yard, which became the starting point for this work. Rather than describe it directly, I explored its sense of endurance, presence and quietly holding its form as it begins to soften into atmosphere.
I wanted the bird and its shelter to function as a subtle relationship.
