⁠Born out of the fusion of two popular Tunisian bands during the 70s (Dalton and the Marhaba Band), Carthago was born and began lighting up dance floors with their funky take on Western-inspired Arabic disco.

Playing sometimes to thousands of fans across the vibrant hotels and night clubs of Tunis and Sousse, Carthago found considerable success, receiving a lot of love from local radio stations and then towards the end of the 70s heading to Paris to record the debut and only album - the self-titled Carthago.

As with many fantastic musical outfits from North Africa and the Middle East during the 60s and 70s, despite a prominence in the scene during their heydey, it seemed that many years later few remnants were left over from a musical journey spanning multiple decades.

Luckily for us have made it their mission to track down ground-shaking bands of Carthago's calibre and issue re-releases (often with never-before-shared extra features) so that a whole new generation can enjoy these buried gems!

With an infectious array of futuristic synths, jumping basslines and squeaky clean funk guitar riffs and solos, you will certainly be captivated by this addictive 2-side!

By expertly combining indigenous sounds from his home country (Ecuador), with Latin-inspired electronic beasts and melodies, Nicola Cruz has achieved worldwide acclaim for his one-of-a-kind pioneering take on electronic music.

The multi-faceted producer blends elements of downtempo and experimental techno with beautifully crafted melodies realised via indigenous instrumentation native to his homeland. The end result is truly unique music which exudes authenticity and challenges the listener to reconsider what they feel is synonymous with popular music in Latin America.

Discussing the inspiration and creative process to effectively blend the sounds of electronic and South America folklore, Cruz explains the importance of mysticism to achieve that genuine vibe which resonates:

"That, for me, at technical levels, is a mid-point between happy and sad, which I would say is mystery, or mystics... like when it changes from day to night or vice-versa; that weird light effect that appears for a few minutes... that sensation translated to music. Now, that’s something interesting about the music from the mountains of South America; there’s a lot of mysticism in those melodies, on those particular instruments, wooden sikus, charangos, vocal harmonies, bombos…"

One To Watch: Mount Palomar⁠
⁠
Belfast-based DJ Neil Kerr (aka Mount Palomar) is a very interesting music talent making waves within the experimental techno scene. ⁠
⁠
Intriguingly funky, dynamic and heavily mechanical sounding, Palomar's timbres are expertly crafted to replicate elements of melodic techno, however with a much more powerful, almost guttural drive. ⁠
⁠
His 2019 debut-EP: 'Black Knight's Tango' is an electrifying journey which draws the listeners in, bringing them up and then suddenly dropping them into the very depths of a groovy, charged and very bass-heavy abyss. We highly recommend checking out his sophomore release also: 'The Perils Of Youth'.⁠

Already with a multitude of Berghain appearances under his belt, is certainly a producer to keep a sharp eye on. ⁠

There's very few electronic artists who manage to successfully maintain a pedestal at the forefront of the electronic music scene without devoting themselves largely to a specific sub-genre of techno or house. ⁠Eric Estornel is one of these rare talents.

Perhaps most commonly known by his 'Maceo Plex' alias (however also producing under alternative identities such as: Maetrik, Mariel Ito and Estornel) this titan of electronic music production is renowned for pioneering a new kind of musical experience which is as varied as his music is infectious.

Partygoers at a Maceo Plex event come from all across the globe to enjoy a rare kind of cross-dimensional experience which sees melodic techno fused with deep house sprinkled with a dash of drumcode alongside a plethora of other musical offerings - the end result is a community of electronic music enthusiasts entirely locked into a momentary and communal appreciation of groovy music underpinned by tantalising rhythms which simply demand to be danced to.
