Some Flowers Just Feel Southern
There are certain flowers you don't just recognize—you remember them.
For me, the magnolia is one of those.
Big creamy petals. Glossy green leaves. That unmistakable Southern presence. It's elegant without trying too hard, which might be exactly why I love it.
🤍 FLOWER FYI: Magnolias are often associated with beauty, dignity, perseverance and strength.
FUN FACT: Magnolias are ancient flowers. They evolved before bees were around, so their early pollinators were beetles. Maybe that's why those petals were built to be a little tougher than they look.
Beautiful and resilient. I like that combination.
I love creating the petals and letting each one curve a little differently. Perfectly imperfect—just the way I like my flowers.

🌸💕 SOME PIECES ARE JUST HARD TO LET GO OF! 💕

Okay, … I might have a problem.

Sometimes you create something special for someone, step back, look at it, and think… “But what if I just kept this one?”

Well, this 8×8 Pink Butterfly Ranunculus commission is THAT piece! 🌸

The pinks, the petals, the texture, the whole darn thing! I'm a little bit in love with it, and I'm not sure I'm ready to pack it up and say goodbye.

But that's the fun of creating custom artwork. Every piece has its own personality, and sometimes one comes along that makes even the artist want to become the collector! 💗

Beauty Knows How to Rise
There is something about a water lily that almost doesn't seem real.
All that beauty floating peacefully on top of the water while underneath there's an entirely different story happening.
And I think that's part of what makes them so special.
🪷 FLOWER FYI: Water lilies are often associated with peace, purity, renewal and transformation.
FUN FACT: Water lilies are rooted below the water, while their leaves and flowers rise to the surface.
Maybe that's why I've always thought there's something quietly powerful about them.
Beautiful things can grow from places you never see.
As an artist, I love the shape—the layers of petals opening outward and that beautiful center just asking for a little extra detail.
And then there's color.
White? Pink? Lavender? Blue? Gold touches?
You already know my answer...

Poppies don't exactly blend into the background.
And I love them for that.
Those delicate, almost paper-like petals surrounding that dramatic center make them look like they were designed by an artist who decided subtlety was overrated.
I can relate. 😂
❤️ FLOWER FYI: Poppies can carry several meanings depending on their color and culture, but they're especially well known as symbols of remembrance.
FUN FACT: A single poppy seed pod can contain a remarkable number of tiny seeds—which seems like a lot of ambition for such a delicate-looking flower.
That's what I love most about them.
They look fragile but make an impact.
And they're so much fun to interpret in clay. I can exaggerate the movement of the petals, play with the center and then pull out colors Mother Nature may—or may not—have intended.
Traditional red? Absolutely.
Pink? Orange? White? Purple? Something completely unexpected?

Small Flower. Big Personality.
I have a soft spot for flowers that don't need to be the biggest one in the garden to get noticed. Meet the violet. 💜
They're sweet, colorful and a little nostalgic—and they prove that sometimes the smallest details are the ones you remember.
💜 FLOWER FYI: Violets are traditionally associated with modesty, faithfulness, love and devotion.
FUN FACT: Some violet flowers have markings that help guide pollinators toward the nectar—basically tiny floral road signs.
Mother Nature apparently thought of everything.
When I create smaller flowers like violets, the challenge is in those tiny details.
And tiny definitely doesn't mean boring.
Purple may be the classic, but I'm already thinking blues, pinks, creams...maybe even a little gold.
