Dance: Is it Important?
We at The Performing Arts Theatre of the South believe it is, especially Ballet!
Here’s why:
Besides the fact that Ballet is the base of all dance…
⭐️Dance is in EVERY CULTURE! It is used for worship. It is used in celebration. It is used to entertain. It is used to tell stories. It is used to teach history. And it is used to pass on traditions.
⭐️It is in God’s Word. Ecclesiastes says, ‘a time to weep, a time to laugh; a time to mourn, a time to dance.’ It is a part of our ability to express, and without expression, we would wither or explode. Our soul yearns to express. You see it in youngsters, then they stop as they grow older for fear of ‘what people will think.’ How tragic.
⭐️ Dance teaches DISCIPLINE, especially Ballet. It takes a great deal of discipline in order to master the techniques necessary to execute the wondrous spectacular steps of Ballet and other dance styles. Discipline that will follow you through your life, whether it is in your school work, your art work, your work work, or your relationships.
⭐️Dance teaches RESPECT.
Respect for your Creator, for yourself, for your fellow dancers, for the art of dance, for other art creators, for family and friends. Respect is underrated and very necessary in today’s world.
⭐️Dance teaches CONTROL. It makes us practice controlling our thoughts, our actions, and our words. It helps us to gain control over our whole body and mind.
⭐️Dance boosts SELF ESTEEM. We all are timid or self conscious about something at some time in our lives. Dance, the practice of, helps us to gain good self esteem.
⭐️Dance teaches CONFIDENCE. Confidence is a tricky thing. You must be careful to be confident, but not too confident. Dance teaches us to know what we can be confident about and what we need to work on. It definitely humbles us; which is a good thing!
⭐️Dance teaches PERSEVERANCE. No one goes into a dance studio the first year and masters the art! Certainly not Ballet. It takes time, it takes work, it takes dedication. And after putting in all the necessary components, then you have discovered the real meaning of perseverance, and how absolutely wonderful it feels to have worked so hard and accomplished so much.
⭐️Dance gets our bodies HEALTHY! It is a workout without knowing it is. Our bodies were created to be used! To be strong, to be flexible, to be productive. Dance helps us to do all of these things, and more.
🌟The Performing Arts Theatre of the South is dedicated to making sure that your, or your child’s, dance education is much more than fancy costumes, loud music, bright lights, and painted on faces. We are serious about teaching the true art of ballet, and modern. And when we hit the stage, we turn heads! Our focus on technical ex*****on is second to none. We understand the draw to frilly, feel good classes and shows, but we do not compromise the true art for quick simple dances and expensive costumes.
Parents, please think past today, past this year, when thinking about enrolling your child in dance. It is not something that can be accomplished in a year. It is a commitment. Don’t approach it nonchalantly, be dedicated and supportive. It is a wonderful ride that can last a lifetime!
