Y'all WBRD FIELD REPORT — Luke the Drifter & The Blackpot — April, 2026

I’m Nicky Butler, Y’all… Broadcasting from the edge of the Basin… where the signal don’t come in straight—it comes in sideways… like memory does.

Tonight we’re talkin’ about a man who carried two voices. One of ‘em sang. The other one… told the truth.

Now most folks know Hank Williams. Honky-tonk. Heartbreak. Jukebox glow and neon hum.

But there was another fella—slipped in between those records like a shadow that didn’t quite leave the room. He didn’t sing much. Didn’t dance. Didn’t ask anybody to clap.

He called himself… Luke the Drifter.

Y'all - after many, many (too manys, right?) hours of slaving in confusion and frustration (I know, bitch, bitch, bitch) I think I have the Whirlybird Email signup fixed and transferred over to our simpler form (ha! simpler...) without losing those who were already signed up and ready for those who want to sign up. There may be a few lost in transition... "anyway", I find myself saying that word a lot these days usually at the end of some "mental and emotional laundry", here the link - https://forms.gle/gpBkPaKQu5RBrmyK7 - and it is correct on website

Y’all —

Some folks have been asking,
“Why do you call WBRD a ghost radio station?”

The short answer is…

because the signal coming out of the Elvis Tower
doesn’t just belong to us.

Places like the Whirlybird remember
the people and cultures that helped build them.

And every now and then — when the signal’s right —
we can hear them again.

Nicky Butler wrote a little Field Report about it.

You can read the whole piece, “Ghost Frequencies of the Whirlybird,” here — right after the short intro:
