UPDATED OCTOBER CALENDAR

Silent Film Mixtape is postponed due to Hurricane Isaias. New date coming soon!

Still on tonight (Oct 8): Count Drahoon is hosting our mad scientist double feature- Reanimator at 7 and Frankenhooker at 9. Free!

Note that we'll be closed on Friday (10/9) and Saturday (10/10).

October at BOXCAR is here.
The month is packed with everything you've been asking for: classic horror, strange horror, spooky movies, goth nights, prom night, live music, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Scream, Halloween, and, of course, King of Drag every Sunday at 8PM.

Basically, we're turning BOXCAR into a haunted little movie theater for the entire month.

Save the calendar. Pick your poison. Bring your friends. October is going to be a good one.

See you at BOXCAR.

H.P. LOVECRAFT’S RE-ANIMATOR 10/8 | 7PM
+ Frankenhooker | 9PM

Class is officially in session. Unfortunately, the professor has been experimenting with reanimation.

Presented by Nashville horror host Count Drahoon, we’re bringing H.P. Lovecraft’s Re-Animator to BOXCAR for a night of mad science, questionable medical ethics, and things that really should have stayed dead.

And because one horror movie is never enough, we’re following it up with Frankenhooker (1990) at 9PM.

Grab your lab coat. Try not to touch anything.

SPOOKY SEASON KICKOFF / TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE

10/7 | 7PM & 9PM

Spooky season continues with two Halloween nightmares pulled straight from the pages of a very bad idea.

We’re bringing out Creepshow (1982) and Trick ’r Treat (2008) — two twisted anthologies where monsters, murder, and Halloween traditions come with consequences.

Creeping corpses. Killer creatures. Bad neighbors. Never break the rules on Halloween.

THIS WEEK AT BOXCAR

Halloween is getting closer.

We’re kicking things off with Creepshow and Trick ’r Treat, then getting a little more unhinged with Re-Animator and Frankenhooker. Friday brings Silent Film Mixtape with Davy Davis & John Brommett for a night of live accompaniment and classic cinema.

We’ll be closed Saturday before closing out the week with another King of Drag Watch Party on Sunday.

Halloween horror, mad science, silent films, and drag. October is getting weird.

Re-Animator (1985) / Frankenhooker (1990)

10/4 | 8PM

Sunday night gets spooky. And fabulous.

We're back at BOXCAR for another King of Drag Watch Party. Come watch the drama unfold, admire the looks, and argue with your friends about every decision made on screen.

Spooky season needs a little glamour, too.

A24 CLASSICS COLLECTION
10/3 | 5PM, 8PM & 10PM

Three movies. Three different flavors of deeply unsettling.

Our A24 Classics Collection brings Midsommar (2019), I Saw the TV Glow (2024), and Hereditary (2018) to the BOXCAR screen for a full night of beautiful, bizarre, and deeply disturbing cinema.

Pick one. See all three. Either way, you're probably not sleeping afterward.

Hannibal Gerald, , took us back to a style that recalls our Jailhouse Zine calendars. Their simple, black and white illustrations with distinct style read beautifully in our IG history. What’s more is that the illustrations are often laugh out loud funny. Little trivia-Spock, the splitting queen of Bad Drag, that guy pointing the gun at us … all hilarious.

Misterbananawoman did all the things we love. They gave loving attention to drawings, met deadlines with ease, and honored the illustration assignments. Grateful for their work and recommend their talents for others.

Thank you so much for an amazing month of art Hannibal!

Our Spooky Season Kicks Off Tomorrow at 7pm With Our First Double Feature Pairing!

It's Creature Feature Time! Graboids and Arachnids. Bugs and Worm(ish) Things! 1990 was a great year for monster movies but most of those were sequels (You also had Gate 2, Basket Case 2, Troll 2, Gremlins 2, Predator 2, Puppet Master 2)

7:00 PM // Tremors (1990) is a masterclass in monster-movie comedy that blends suspense, witty writing, and practical effects into a uniquely fun ride, Tremors stars Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward as small-town handymen whose chemistry, banter, and realistic panic drive the movie's charm. Enjoy one of the most unique movie monsters, the Graboids. Built using rubber, slime, and physical models, these monsters have a tactile, ugly-wonderful design that CGI rarely matches.

9:00 PM // Arachnophobia (1990) is a perfect example of the "thrillomedy" genre, expertly blending genuine suspense with dark, self-aware humor. Jeff Daniels delivers a fantastic everyman performance as a doctor who moves to a small town and has to conquer his own paralyzing fear of spiders to protect his family and John Goodman steals scenes as an eccentric, over-confident local exterminator who takes the battle against the infestation deadly seriously. Plus, the practical effects give the film a tactile, creepy realism and the heavy reliance on real, trained spiders rather than CGI makes the scares feel authentic and grounded.

Honestly, just come to watch Reba McEntire Unleash Hell.
