Real talk. Since the start of the year, we have been flooded with donation requests. In just the last week alone, we have received 10 requests. Everything from school events to galas, luncheons, and silent auctions.
As a small business owner who also works in the nonprofit world, my heart is fully invested in both. I understand the need. I understand the ask. I truly do.
But here is the honest reality. Our community needs us as a business. And as a locally owned business, we need our community too.
Since we first opened in 2019, we have seen a shift. Registration patterns are different. Spending habits are different. Costs across the board have increased for small businesses and individuals. That is not a complaint. It is simply the reality of operating in 2026.
We have worked hard to adapt. We have added more affordable workshops based on feedback. We have expanded options. We have looked for ways to continue creating a space where people can gather, create, and connect.
I get it. Times are tight for many. Organizations have to raise money. We respect that. But there has to be a healthy middle ground.
Here are a few ways we can work together better.
When the people in your organization prioritize shopping local, businesses like ours are better positioned to donate silent auction items and experiences.
โก๏ธ Inquire about hosting a fundraising workshop night with us. We can set up an event where a percentage of registrations goes directly back to your nonprofit. Your supporters get a fun night out, and your organization raises money in a sustainable way.
โก๏ธ We are also exploring regular Giveback Nights. Let us know what nonprofits you would love to see included!
โก๏ธ If your organization has social media, highlight the businesses that contribute. Tag them. Thank them publicly. Visibility and loyalty go a long way.
I am sure I am not the only small business owner who feels the weight when another email, letter, or phone call comes in. I am empathetic to a fault. If I did not have boundaries in place, I would give away every last penny just to help make a difference.
Quarter one is always tough for small businesses. Ironically, it is also the time of year with the most fundraisers.
If you believe in shopping local and keeping Chattanooga strong, the most impactful way to support businesses that give back is to show up for them year round.
We would truly love to see you in the studio.
