Whether you had a 200 average or were considered a "pie chucker," it was an exciting day for local bowling enthusiasts when Downtown Bowl owners Charles R. Latimer and Wilbur H. Latimer opened their state-of-the-art venue on September 12, 1959. The eight-lane bowling alley, shown here in this image at 218 West Holt Blvd., promised the latest AMF equipment in automatic pinspotters, score projectors, and ball returns. In their spare time, bowlers could enjoy refreshment in the on-site coffee shop that served breakfast, lunch, dinner, homemade pies, tasty ice cream treats, and ice-cold beer.
