Today we join the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe in honoring the late Chief Executive Arthur “Art” Gahbow and the lasting vision he left for our community.

His belief in self-governance, economic opportunity, and a stronger future for Mille Lacs Band members continues to guide the work of tribal enterprise today.

At Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures, that vision lives on through Band member employment, business growth, and reinvestment back into the Mille Lacs Band.

Wewinabi Inc proudly carries his name as a reflection of that enduring impact.

All Mille Lacs Band government offices, outer districts, Health and Human Services, clinics, and schools will be closed on Monday, April 27, 2026, in honor of the late Mille
Lacs Band Chief Executive Art Gahbow.

Miigwech to Art Gahbow for his service to the Mille Lacs Band as Chairman and Chief Executive from 1972 to 1991.

Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures would like to clarify that recent statements on social media suggesting that Makwa Global provides services to the Department of Homeland Security or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement are false and incorrect. Makwa Global does not, and has never, provided services to DHS or ICE.

Regarding the $30 million contract referenced in recent social media posts, this contract is with the Environmental Protection Agency, supporting the Mid-Continent Ecology Division in Duluth, Minnesota. Any suggestion that this work is associated with DHS is inaccurate and misleading.

We have made the decision to temporarily suspend operations at two of our St. Paul hotels - Intercontinental St. Paul Riverfront and DoubleTree St. Paul Downtown - in response to elevated safety and security concerns. This temporary suspension is for all guests with reservations and began at noon Sunday, January 18, 2026, today.

We apologize for this inconvenience and are contacting guests to offer re-accommodation to other properties at no charge while these hotels are temporarily closed. The safety and security of all of our guests and employees is always our top priority.

In recognition of Native American Month, we are proud to support the Mille Lacs Band’s Education Department in bringing Finding Hozho to our community. This PG-rated Native film—centered on forgiveness, healing, and reconciliation—will be showing at Grand Makwa Cinema for one week, ending November 29.

As part of our continued partnership with Grand Makwa Cinema to uplift Native storytelling, MLCV will cover admission for Mille Lacs Band Members for all showings. Please bring your Band ID and enjoy the film.
