I know we've been posting a lot lately about merch and those sorts of things, but after decades of touring and hitting the road to see y'all - that suddenly stopped with the way the world is right now.

So this is how artists are eating right now and we appreciate every one of you that has supported us during this with music streams, on Twitch, on Patreon, via merch...however it is that you have, THANK YOU.

My music is available everywhere for free streaming. If you want to buy it, I'm on Bandcamp. If you want to support with merch, the link will be in the comments.

Hip hop community: how are you holding up? Are you putting out extra merch, or engaging with live stream concerts? Let's start a thread? 👇

Fans - we can continue supporting artists during these times by buying merch, streaming music, and watching their videos. 🖤

"It's just thing after thing after thing," said Slowdown's Jason Kulbel. "We can't wrap our heads around it. We're just scrambling."

The OEAAs are next week! 🎵 If you've ever wondered how artists are nominated or how winners are selected, here's your chance to learn:

Here's how the nominee selection process works!

1) First and most importantly, YOU, the public VOTES. Our accounting firm then tallies the votes and determines top nominees in each category. You can vote year round on our website.

2) Initial ballots are sent to each genre's review committees to analyze the public nominations and ensure they fit the criteria and are placed in the correct categories.

3) The top nominees in each category are then put on a final ballot that is sent to members of the OEAA Academy, consisting of over 175 established artists, industry professionals and cultural journalists. These tallied ballots will give us our Omaha Entertainment & Arts Awards winners which will be announced at the annual awards show on February 16th at Slowdown.

Ch-ch-check out my latest article for The Reader, a piece about Omaha’s hip hop history. This online article is the extended version of what you'll find at newsstands across Omaha.

The takeaway is that hip hop has been a part of Omaha since the beginning and there’s always been a rich, colorful history and passionate people working hard to help the culture grow and prosper. And now is the time to pay homage to those who paved the way for today and preserve the knowledge so it doesn't disappear with time. 🎧

The article mentions an archive of the legends & landmarks that helped cultivate Omaha's hip hop scene. Here is a link to that archive, now published: https://sayheytheremusic.com/omahas-hip-hop-legends-and-landmarks/

Hip hop culture has been a part of Omaha for almost 40 years, and while we may not be a nationally recognized hub like New York, Compton, Atlanta, Houston or Chicago, what we do have is a colorful collage of countless stories and passionate people who have helped it thrive in its own way. Song of the day is "If I Was Santa Claus" by Atmosphere. Merry Christmas ya filthy animals.

"Which brings me to the issue, and that would be this,
how often must I ask myself why I exist?
I feel like a freak, this world is a circus,
just trying to find myself as well as my purpose."

Song of the day is "Jazz" by Mick Jenkins.

"F**k I look like followin' your footsteps?
Don't fumble, cause this ain't Sunday football,
I ain't at home with a footrest.
In fact I'm in front of the back of your head,
but I'm coming from behind, better look left."
