Opera Omaha is a growth-minded, high energy, and innovative company with a demanding mission: producing opera performances in multiple formats and styles and co-creating artist-led programs for a variety of community service organizations. "We recently started programming this fall with a workshop with the youth at the Sarpy County Juvenile Justice Center. For our first session we were inspired by a set of production posters from Opera Omaha’s 1983-84 season which included Aida, Don Giovanni, and The Tales of Hoffmann. Fellows guided a discussion on how show posters are often the first step in storytelling and give audiences an idea of what they can expect in an opera. This was also a great way for us to talk with youth about the careers in opera including things like graphic design, branding, and marketing. After our discussion, we facilitated a game where youth were asked to guess the plots and titles of productions based on what they saw in a show poster. It was entertaining to see them use clues from the elements, fonts and colors to make up a story! We ended our workshop with youth collaging their own show poster, this time using a superhero theme and unique character. The night was a fun and great way to start the Fellowship season!"

Our community partner CIRA Center for Immigrant and Refugee Advancement is looking for winter gear

🎃 ❄️Spooky season is a good reminder that the chilly season is quickly on its way! That means it's the time to pull out our coats, hats, and gloves. But some of our neighbors don't yet have these integral supplies in their closets, so CIRA is hosting a coat drive! We are accepting new (or tags still on) coats, jackets, gloves, mittens, scarves, and hats for our immigrant and refugee neighbors. They can be in all sizes, including children's sizes, and any color. They can be homemade (for the knitters and crocheters out there) or store-bought with lots of love.

Bring donations to the Omaha and Lincoln CIRA offices
📍4223 Center St., Omaha, NE 68105
📍121 S. 13th St. Lincoln, NE 68508

Be sure you bring in your gifts before Nov. 2, so we can distribute them to our most vulnerable communities before it gets wintry.
