I’ve had this piece hanging in my room for about a year now because I was so antsy to hang it that I wasn’t about to wait for it to be dry enough to varnish… that being said… yes, it was wet when I hung it up, but I used gloves and only touched the super dry spots 🤪

I’m excited to see the colors come to life after a few coats of satin varnish. I never used to varnish my work, partially because I’m a self-taught artist who wasn’t taught the importance of protecting your work, but also because I’m impatient. 🙂‍↔️

I finished this bad boy last night, so even though it will probably be a month or so before it dries (the beauty and downfall of oil paints), I’m gifting it to my parents for Christmas. This piece is a painting of my favorite tree in our backyard growing up. It was the first home we were able to call our own- MUCH better than military housing. I’ll never forget the great memories we made there- from all of the free child labor making the brick patio, mowing the lawn without the bag and getting in trouble for it, our neighbors who never told when they saw my sister and I sneaking out, to chasing my nephews around the main floor. I’m excited for my parents’ new home to be done, but their old house will be greatly missed. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone!

I’m so stoked to have finally finished this bad boy! I had bitten a bit more off than I could chew to be perfectly honest- creating straight lines on a canvas is WAY harder than you’d think. Paint tape? Bled underneath. Ruler? Same. Summoning an incredible amount of patience? Yes.

And forgive the wood background. My new apartment just does not have the same lighting, and I had used up all my patience making this piece- therefore had zero when it came to photographing it. 😅

I love the turnout, though, and can’t wait to see it on the wall next to my last giant peach rose! Now onto the third piece in the set. Thank you for trusting me to decorate your wall!!! ❤️
