Teens 'N' Theater at The Rose

Seven teen-only shows are produced each season in which the teen participants are given opportunities to act, direct, write, design, and stage manage.

The Rose's Teens 'N' Theater program provides students ages 13-18 a unique opportunity to experience the world of professional theater while making friends and having a lot of fun! This unique program provides teenagers ages 13 to 18, who have not yet graduated from high school, an opportunity to roll up their sleeves and get active in the world of theater.

Teens ‘N’ Theater is so excited to announce the start of the Teen Leadership Council! The Teen Leadership Council is for teens that want to serve as a leader in Rose teen programming by planning teen social events, giving input on Rose teen classes/camps, and receiving professional development in all aspects of theater. The very first meeting will be on Monday, Sept. 21st at 6:30 pm at the Rose Studios for Youth Artists. We cannot wait to see you there!

Meet three of the incredible Rose high school interns - Cora, Rue, and Penny! Our high school interns serve as student leaders in our first Teens ‘N” Theater project, Room for Improv’ment, help in Rose classes, assist with youth/Teens ‘N’ Theater productions, and work on passion projects that contribute to the Rose community.

CORA:
1. What are you most excited to do in the internship?
“I’m excited to learn many more skills in theater!”

2. What theater character would you most want to start a podcast with?
“I would LOVE to do a podcast with Meyer Wolfsiem from The Great Gatsby Musical.”

RUE:
1. What are you most excited to do in the internship?
“I’m most excited to (hopefully) hang out in the costume shop!”

2. What theater character would you most want to start a podcast with?
“I would LOVE to do a podcast with Zidler (specifically Megan Thee Stallion version) from Moulin Rouge.”

PENNY:
1. What are you most excited to do in the internship?
“I’m most excited to do costuming for the Young Playwrights Festival!”

2. What theater character would you most want to start a podcast with?
“Also, I would love to have a podcast with Edward Bloom from Big Fish; he has many many stories!!”

POV: You’re creating a completely improvised mini play with your besties and the music lines up with the moment JUST RIGHT.

Room for Improv’ment is our teen production of an improvisation audience interactive storytelling experience. It’s free to participate and for any student 12-18!

The intern project is back in a new way and with a new name- now open to all students ages 12-18!

Room for Improv’ment is an improv troupe of creative, energetic, and collaborative students who through comedic improvisation, audience interaction, and storytelling literally BUILD a show in front of your eyes!

If you’re looking to grow your improv skills, expand your horizons as an actor, or just get silly goofy with your friends, this production is the perfect fit for you!

In a few months we’ll be having info meetings for next year’s production! Maybe you’ll see some of these cool lollipop props they made for the parade! 🍭

Our teen Shakespeare summer production of was full of combat, drama, and chilling moments! These young artists spent three weeks studying Shakespeare delivery, stage combat, character work, and advanced movement techniques. This culminated in a 45 minute production of one of Shakespeare’s most haunting plays. Bravo!! 🗡️🫀🐦‍⬛

We had two fantastic high school intern designers that worked on the Young Playwrights Festival this year. As a part of their work, they were both responsible for creating renderings for their designs. Rory created three costume renderings for the characters Nessie from “The Cryptid Club”, Dallas from “A Starving Artist”, and Adeline from “Tony and Davey”. Icarus created three makeup renderings for the characters Eeble Zarglorp from “Hell’s Kitchen: Intergalactic”, Fish with Legs from “Fish with Legs”, and Madison from “A Starving Artist”.
