Behind the scenes of PSYCHO (1960)

One of the most shocking films of all time, Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO changed the thriller genre forever. Don't miss your last chance to see the restored, uncut, original 1960 theatrical release version on the big screen as part of Weekend Essentials!

When Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) goes on the lam with a wad of cash and hopes of starting a new life, she ends up at the notorious Bates Motel, where manager Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) cares for his housebound mother.

Apology accepted.

All tickets are now on sale for our screening of the newly restored CITIZEN RUTH followed by a Q&A with Omaha's own Oscar®-winning director Alexander Payne!

His debut feature, the film instantly announced a striking new voice to American cinema while mixing political extremism with dark wit and piercing irony.

Unfit mother of four Ruth Stoops (Laura Dern) discovers while in jail that she's pregnant again. The judge charges her with endangering the fetus, but tells her he'll reduce the charges if she has an abortion. When word of this gets out, Ruth's caught in the middle of a tug-of-war: a clash of wild, noisy, ridiculous people that rapidly dissolves into a media circus.

Our next Omaha Checkup is coming up with CODED BIAS. Join Film Streams and UNMC College of Public Health for a free screening and be sure to stay after the film to hear from a panel discussing AI and the dangers of inherent bias.

Prior to the screening, attendees are invited to indulge in heavy hors d'oeuvres at 6 pm in the Film Streams lobby.

When MIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini discovers the most facial-recognition software does not accurately identify darker-skinned faces and the faces of women, she delves into an investigation of widespread bias in algorithms. As it turns out, artificial intelligence is not neutral, and women are leading the charge to ensure our civil rights are protected.

While this is a free event, we suggest you RSVP in advance to save yourself a seat!
