I made a plan to post a movie recommendation every Friday. Well that didn’t happen, other than the two I posted awhile back. It’s Monday, but I figured I’d post a few that we just got in. This ended up being a long read, so bear with me 😂
Mulholland Dr. I’ve seen this movie 20 times now and I still have no idea what I’m watching. I don’t think David Lynch knew what was going on when he directed it. The movie came out in 2001 and stars Naomi Watts, Laura Herring, and Justin Theroux. Betty(Watts) arrives in LA to pursue her dream job. But plans are altered when she discovers a strange and beautiful woman(Herring) who seems to be suffering from amnesia in her apartment. The two go on a little adventure to try to recover her memories. It’s a movie of mystery, suspense, romance, passion, and the bizarre and unusual aspects of dreams VS reality and alternate universes. Why am I so drawn to it? Well, I enjoy media that’s a bit out there. Lynch films are cool because most are open to interpretation. You’ll either love this movie, or you’ll hate it, but it’s worth it to find out.
Next up is Kalifornia(1993) What a movie. Unlike Mulholland Dr, it’s more straight forward and much more simple, but man is it intense. The first time I watched this one, I wanted to rewatch it immediately. This one has a pretty sweet cast. David Duchovny(mmmm😋) Brad Pitt, Juliette Lewis, and Michelle Forbes. All four give incredible performances, especially Pitt, who plays a murderous lunatic, and Lewis who plays a dull brained sweetheart with a sad story. Brian(Duchovny) and his girlfriend, Carrie(Forbes) are a couple of artsy folks who dream about making their way to California to write a book on famous murders, but in order to afford the trip, they put an ad out for a couple others to join them and pitch in on expenses. Early(Pitt) and Adele (Lewis) are a couple of hillbilly, lower class individuals who respond to the ad. But what the others don’t know, is that Early isn’t innocent when it comes to the topic of the book that they’re writing. If you want to feel all sorts of emotions, check this one out.
Last one is a title I would avoid saying 5 times. Candyman is an epic horror movie about an Urban Legend that comes to life. Tony Todd may not seem too scary, but with that hook and that chilling voice, he’s pretty terrifying in this one. He kills some people, kidnaps a baby, and blames all of it on poor Helen Lyle(Virginia Madsen) who has to fight to prove her innocence and stop Candyman from reeking more havoc. It’s a Clive Barker movie, so it’s obviously a must watch.
Well, I think I babbled long enough. We have all 3 of these movies in stock right now if I’ve convinced you to watch any of them.
