What does the dash on a gravestone mean to you? 🤔

Years ago during a military seminar, I heard a speech about that little dash between the dates on a headstone. That dash represents your entire life—how you live it, what you stand for, and how you’re remembered.

That concept stuck with me forever, and it became the inspiration for Track 6 on Seeing Through the Static. I called it "The Space Between." It's a simple, down-to-earth song about making the most of the time we have between the day we arrive and the day we leave.

Time for another Behind The Scenes Video! Track 5, How Are My Boys. This one is tough. 🇺🇸

We are over halfway through the behind-the-scenes look at the album, and this track hits a little differently.
When I sat down to write a military song, I didn't want to just write a generic tribute. Less than 1% of people put on the uniform and truly understand that sacrifice—putting your duty first, missing flights, missing dinners, and missing your kids' ball games. I know that feeling from my own deployments, missing out on things back home and knowing how hard it was on my wife to hold everything together.

But this song isn't about me. It’s based on the true, unbelievable heroism of Army Sergeant First Class Alwyn Cashe.
After his Bradley vehicle was struck by an IED in Iraq, it erupted in flames. Drenched in fuel, SFC Cashe pushed his own pain aside and repeatedly went back into the burning vehicle to pull his soldiers and an interpreter out. He suffered burns over 72% of his body but absolutely refused medical attention until his troops were carried to safety.
He ultimately gave his life for his men, later receiving the Medal of Honor. His first concern after the attack? Asking about his soldiers: "How are my boys?"
That became the title of this song.

While I was talking about this track on stream, we had an unbelievable moment. One of our community members, Mandy, shared that her family member was actually in that vehicle—and his life was saved by SFC Cashe. It’s a small world, and realizing that connection hit me incredibly hard.
When you listen to this song, I hope you remember the true story behind it, and the folks who survived because of one man's ultimate sacrifice.

The love for Seeing Through the Static has been unreal! Today, let's talk about the true story behind Track 4.

We all know the grind. I remember those endless 60-hour weeks and driving miles just to hit a bowling alley, sing karaoke, and finally let loose. We need that release! But over the years, I’ve also seen the heavy consequences of not having a safe ride home—and I've been in a wreck myself (but not drinking). I know exactly how fast things can change.

I wanted to write a drinking song with a different message. Hit the town, have a few drinks, and make epic memories—but make your plan first. Whether it’s an Uber, a cab, or a designated driver, lock it in before the first pour so you can wake up and do it all again next weekend.

The story behind the song that started it all...

We're back with the third behind-the-scenes look at the new album, Seeing Through the Static. After the hard rock energy of "Breaking Through," we're slowing things down to talk about Track #3: "The Firmest Ground."

This was the very first song I wrote for the album, and it's also the most personal. It’s a love letter to my wife, built around the major milestones we've shared since we started dating back in 1998.

From her finding those little blue turtle pins to give me when I got a pin on the wrestling mat, to navigating a long-distance relationship while she was in college and I was in the military, to the day we finally got married 10 years later. It even covers the hardest chapter: when our twin boys were born two months early in 2016 and we practically lived in the NICU while juggling day and night shifts.

Through it all, she has been my beacon and the firmest ground I could ever stand on.

This song is incredibly personal. It was written for anyone—especially those in the LGBTQIA+ community or anyone who feels forced into a box—who is exhausted from pretending to be someone they aren't.

We built this community so you can be exactly who you want to be, without the mask. It’s time to break through that barrier and find the people who accept you for you.

Musically, we’re switching things up on this track! Inspired by bands like the Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox 20 who let alternate band members take the lead, we handed the mic to our second singer. He brings a gritty, punk-rock energy that perfectly matches the raw emotion of the song.

Amazing night
