I've created another cute little rose sketch piece! I'm loving doing these haha.
First the pendant was painted gold and black, then the background was painted white, then I did the sketch, added color, then my favorite gold paint, and topped it off with resin! What do you think of this one? ;) 🌹

I made a pendant from scratch! Got a nice little piece of wood and made a hole in it for the bail, and then I sketched on some tiny wild roses🌹, and gave them a little bit of color. Then I added some gold flecks and painted the back gold, and then the whole thing was lacquered, and a sterling silver bail was added! Let me know what you think! Know someone who might be interested in this one? ;)

The making of an icon!

This is my first time making an icon,
I don't really much experience with paints, but something in me told me to go for it!! I think it turned out beautifully!! 😍 This piece took about 20 hours. I did it over 1.5 days. Hardcore. Lol
The process I went through for making it went as follows:

•Select a wooden board, note that mine is not cut in the traditional Orthodox way, but I worked with what I could find haha.
•Treat the wood with maaany layers of flat, white paint(effectively making the surface into gesso).
•Sand lightly until smooth.
•Buff with cotton cloth until you achieve a pretty good shine.
•Stain the back of the board, I did mine in a dark brown.
•Sketch out your chosen piece on paper.
•Transfer it to the board with carbon paper.
•Use a small tool to carve gently into the paint/gesso, carving every line, this is because the painting process will cover the drawn lines, carved lines are easily seen.
•Add gold leafing or leafing paint to desired areas.
•Start painting! I used watered down acrylics, but traditionally, ground up colorful natural gemstones mixed with egg yolk are used.. I ain't got that kind of money people... lol
•Once all the painting is complete and dried, set with a spray clear coat, and then a thick layer of varnish.

This was an exhausting process, but worth it!

A very close friend of mine, a professor where I used to work, that I've known nearly a decade, has a birthday today. I decided to try my hand at something a little different, and brought his age down to what I've always seen him as. Facebook wanted to tag him right away, which means I did well 😉
Happy birthday, my dear friend.

New kind of art for me! Draw designs with henna, scratch off dried henna to reveal the soft lines, and then fill it in with rich colors!
