Often our artists are new to the art industry or experimenting with new mediums, many times they are showing their art for the very first time.

Every dollar donated to TCMoFA goes directly to promoting the work of these local artists and creating free public art experiences for the local community.

"Temporal: Stories of Indigenous Present, Re-imagining Indigenous Futures." Indigenous futurism is taking over the Thurston County Museum of Fine Arts this fall for the 4th annual CSMoFa (Coast Salish Museum of Fine Arts) takeover in collaboration with Indigenous Creatives Collective and curated by Mikaela Shafer.

This show highlights real people and real stories of Indigenous presence in the now: who we are, the ones we love, the stories we tell, the homes we live in, and the marks we leave behind that shape the future. Our own voices, our own space. It envisions a future where we exist in the moment on our own terms.

📅 Opening Reception: Oct. 2nd, 6-9 PM at 120 Olympia Ave NE
Featuring live performances, interactive features, Indigenous foods, and a chance to meet the artists.
Exhibition runs: Oct. 2nd – Dec. 11th, 2026.

Meet our Head Curator/Administrative Manager (and a co-founder of TCMoFA!), Isabel!

Isabel Yasui (she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Olympia, Washington. She moved from Seattle to attend The Evergreen State College, where she graduated in 2016 with a Master’s in Teaching. She teaches at South Bay Elementary as an Art Specialist. She is a co-founder of the Thurston County Museum of Fine Arts and assists the group with graphic design, website management, and curation.

MOTHER is a show that reaches all generations.

We recently had a gaggle of little ones visit with their preschool to see the show, and they had a blast running around the museum telling stories of their own mothers or the mother figures in their lives.

Meet our Executive Administrator, David!

David Hoekje (he/him) is a photographer and community arts organizer living in Olympia, Washington. His self-directed photographic and collage practices explore the convoluted relationship between images and their subjects, alienation, and authenticity. He is a freelance photographer working primarily with independent businesses, artists, and musicians in the Pacific Northwest. Since 2022 he has worked as a lead organizer and curator for the Thurston County Museum of Fine Art.
