Summer schedules can be a little wild! When it comes to the OAC/OCC Summer Children's Theater Workshop, we know our performers have vacations, ball games, pool days, and family plans. Missing a rehearsal here and there is okay as long as students come prepared, practice at home, stay committed to their role, and are present for all performances.

This year for the OAC/OCC Summer Children's Theater Workshop, our JR show students will start two days before the rest of the workshop. For students in grades 5th-9th, the first two days of the workshop will be July 1 and 2 from 1:00-3:30 pm. The workshop will then resume as normal on July 6.

For the KIDS show (students in grades 1st-4th), the workshop will begin on July 6th.

Summer Downen is a former OAC/OCC Summer Children's Theater Workshop participant! She started attending our workshop in 5th grade and performed in Oklahoma JR, Beauty and the Beast JR, and Dear Edwina JR. After graduating from the summer program, she has now come back to volunteer at the workshop for the last three years.

We are just ONE MONTH away from this year's OAC/OCC Summer Children's Theater Workshop! One of the cool things we do each year is bring in a variety of speakers to talk to the students about acting as well as other topics like lighting, set design, music, stage movement, and costume design.

Is your child considering our summer theater workshop but has never done theater before? That’s ok! We have students every summer who are doing theater for the first time, and they walk away with a great experience, new skills, and new friends. All of the workshop students meet each other on the first day and get to work together on activities and scenes right off the bat. We make sure everyone is comfortable and having fun day one!

In the spring of 2015, OCC Theater performed the musical "Mary Poppins," featuring a cast of 35 community members and kids. The OCC show included some "magical" elements in the set and props, and it utilized a flight system for Mary Poppins, Bert, and Miss Andrew.

Written by the Sherman Brothers, "Mary Poppins" is based on the similarly titled children's books by P. L. Travers and the 1964 Disney film starring Julie Andrews. The production opened on Broadway on November 16, 2006, and closed on March 3, 2013, after more than six years and 2,619 performances.

What is the OAC/OCC Summer Children's Theater Workshop? We'd love to tell you!

The summer children's theater workshop is a collaboration between the Olney Arts Council and Olney Central College Theater. It is a three-week afternoon workshop that introduces students to many different aspects of theater: costume design, set design, stage movement and direction, choreography, music, performance, and more. The students will hear from a variety of workshop presenters on these different topics, as well as learn, rehearse, and perform a fully staged show.

Last year, both of our age groups performed "Finding Nemo" in the JR and KIDS versions. This year, we are presenting two different shows! Our younger group (grades 1st-4th) will perform "101 Dalmatians KIDS," and our older group (grades 5th-9th) will perform Mary Poppins JR.

We can't wait for you to see how much these kids accomplish in just three short weeks! No previous theater experience is required, and kids from Richland and surrounding counties are welcome to participate.

The Smokin Pig has given me the opportunity to use their food truck this Sunday outside Bronze Boutique starting at 11 AM, and I’m extremely grateful for the chance to continue growing my business and reaching more people in the community.

As a small business, opportunities like this make a huge difference, and it’s great to work alongside another local business that’s willing to support young entrepreneurs and help businesses grow.
