It's SHOW DAY! Yesterday we had a fantastic full run of both 101 Dalmatians KIDS and Mary Poppins JR. Each cast got to watch the other perform. They had a blast! We have our last workshop day/rehearsal this afternoon, and then tonight, the Dalmatians kick off the weekend of performances at 7:00 pm. Come cheer on these young performers!

It's almost time! We have two more workshop afternoons, and then our students finally get to show you what they have been working on for the last three weeks. Today is a full dress rehearsal with costumes as well as microphones, lighting, and projections. Then tomorrow night is show time!

101 Dalmatians KIDS performs tomorrow at 7:00 pm and Saturday at 2:00 pm. Mary Poppins JR performs Saturday at 7:00 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $10 and available at www.iecc.edu/occ/theater.

It is the third and final week of the OAC/OCC Summer Children's Theater Workshop! Performances for both 101 Dalmatians KIDS and Mary Poppins JR are this weekend, and the kids are so excited to show the audiences their hard work. We've reached the end of the second week of the OAC/OCC Summer Children's Theater Workshop! It was another great week of presenters, singing, dancing, and learning. The shows are almost blocked, and next week we will add finishing touches, costumes, and lighting. These are going to be two super fun shows!

In the summer of 2017, OCC Theater performed the play "Agnes of God." The play is a three-character drama where a court-appointed psychiatrist must assess the sanity of a novice accused of murdering her newborn. It premiered on Broadway in 1982 and closed in 1983 after 599 performances. The OCC Theater production featured an all-female cast of three community members playing Martha, the psychiatrist, Mother Superior, and Agnes, the novice. The show used only a sofa and a chair for the set, with no additional lighting or backdrops.

We are starting our second week of the OAC/OCC Summer Children's Theater Workshop, and our students have been BUSY! They have been learning their lines, songs, choreography, and blocking. We have also had several great guest presenters, with more presenting this week.

Thank you to our special guest presenter, Noah Marlowe, for speaking to the students at our summer theater workshop yesterday! Noah played Michael in “Mary Poppins” on Broadway when he was just ten years old. Since then, he has performed in other Broadway shows, plays, and national tours. He is currently on the national tour of “& Juliet.”

Our students wrote out great questions to ask him. He also talked about what it was like to be on Broadway as a kid, his favorite moments from “Mary Poppins,” and what to do when you get nervous on stage. Thank you, Noah!

In the spring of 2017, OCC Theater performed the musical "The Little Mermaid." The OCC production featured a cast of 38 community members, including seven OCC students.

"The Little Mermaid" musical is based on the 1989 film by Walt Disney Animation Studios and the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen about a mermaid who dreams of the world above the sea and gives up her voice to find true love. The show opened on Broadway on January 10, 2008, and closed on August 30, 2009, after 685 performances and 50 previews.

Last week, the JR group of the summer children's theater workshop kicked off with learning how to audition. Then each student auditioned for either a speaking role or an ensemble role for Mary Poppins JR. After that, they began work on the hardest song and dance of the show - Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
