What is it like to attend 40s?
You roll in, no lines, you already registered so we scan your ticket, hand you a wristband and a raffle ticket for the caddy pickup, and you go setup your spot. If you’re camping you swing over to the camping field first and make camp. Next you wonder around and try to look at cars but everyone is talking to you and being friendly so you barely get down a row before being asked if you want some food, a beer, etc. Your cell phone is on airplane mode so it won’t go dead and you can take pics all day. So you continue to make new friends. Next you jump on the couch trailer and take a few laps as it crawls around the show. You hop off just in time for the sound off to start. A crowd is growing to hear the music that our cars make. You begin to settle into the peaceful valley we have here in Olivebridge and you’re becoming comfortable knowing evening is coming. Awards are fast so we don’t spend hours laboring through it, we pull the raffle winners and hand someone a title to a caddy pickup!! As dusk approaches and a mountain chill begins to set in and we all clean up glass and garbage real quick to keep it safe all night. Everyone leaving for the night exits and the ones staying position their cars closer to the bonfire area so they don’t have to move them after dark.
As the sun sets and the light of the amazing day you just had begins to fade, a raging bonfire is burning and a tribal sense of inclusion comes over those remaining. Endless Stories, tall tales, dream builds, and future plans are all topics being heard through the night air. Three letter engine codes can be heard jumping out of random conversations. We’re dreaming, we’re planning and people that want to know are with us. The speed theatre plays some automotive movies while we burn the rest of the evening up in absolute bliss.
Some hold out longer but most are exhausted from a long day and they wonder off quietly to their tents. They lay down and get a few moments to reflect on the day they just experienced. They are hooked. They can never miss a 40s in a bag ever again.
