Let us introduce to you a sweet lady that is near & dear to our heart, Ms. Darlene Alford.
We met Ms. Darlene several years ago when we started attending Day Spring Church in Liberty, Tx.
Buddy Graves refers to her as The Singing Canary from Hull, Texas because she is our Lead Lady Worship Singer on Sunday's.
We sat down with Darlene a few weeks ago to learn more about her background.
She was born in Dayton, Texas and grew up in Butter Bean Island. ??? This is a localized regional informal name known by residents and local families for the area she grew up in that we call Hardin, Texas. Darlene grew up living the country life with 1 brother and 1 sister on her family's farm where they did grow butter beans and purple hull peas. She is a proud graduate of Hardin High School!
Darlene has always loved music. She was in a singing group back in the early 70's called
"End Time Echos". They would perform Gospel music at the Old City Hall, nursing homes, and churches that took her as far as Edna, Tx.
Her favorite Music Artists are Merle, Loretta, & Rhonda Vincent. Favorite songs are Amazing Grace which she leads us in each Sunday, and
By The Mark.
Darlene worked for Liberty County for 39 years until her retirement in 2020. Her favorite things to do now are gardening, decorating, cooking and baking, and listening to Old Gospel and Country Music!
We asked her what she felt was her God given talent or calling, she immediately responded with the ability to sing and her hidden talent of playing the mandolin!
Darlene's favorite Bible Verse is from
Isaiah 40:31- They that wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not grow weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Please come out next Saturday, 10/17 at 7 pm and enjoy the music as Ms. Darlene sing us some Old Country & Gospel songs!
