The Bicentennial quilt currently on display as part of the current exhibition, "Patchwork: Connecticut Artists Consider 250" was commissioned by the Museum (then known as the Lyme Historical Society) in April 1976. The announcement in the organization’s newsletter stated, “Quilts traditionally express community solidarity and we hope this one will be a lasting tribute to the people of our town during this Bicentennial year.” We hope you stop by the Museum to see the quilt and the rest of the exhibition which features 97 work by 86 contemporary Connecticut artists.

Did you know that this past May community members were invited to contribute quilt blocks to commemorate America's 250? That quilt can be seen at the Old Lyme Town Hall. We're so happy that Lisa Reneson chose to contribute a block featuring the Museum!

Writing Workshop Saturday, September 12 from 10am to noon

Join Carlin Steere, essayist, editor, and educator at the University of South Florida, for an interactive introduction to the world of ekphrastic poetry connecting art and language in creative ways. After a deep dive into the process, participants will respond to several works of art on view in the Museum's permanent collection.

Participants have an opportunity to share the results in preparation for a more final version of their poem to be continued after the event. Steere will coordinate the submission of final poems into a class anthology. Register https://flogris.org/calendar/creative-writing-workshop/
