Lucky Rooster Yarns

Lucky Rooster Yarns Lucky Rooster Yarns LLC is open in Olathe! This locally owned shop offers yarn, tools, classes, and a gathering place. Hi! Olathe needs a yarn shop.

Welcome to Lucky Rooster Yarns in Olathe (OH-lay-thuh), Kansas. We need more places to connect with community and the therapeutic benefits of crafting with yarn. Lucky Rooster's mission is to offer a place to help meet these needs with yarn, tools, classes, and a gathering place. The owner, Kathleen, named the shop for her two children: the first tends to walk through life with some kind of charme

d shield around her, and the second is well described as a rooster. You might see these kids at the shop (Lucky and Rooster are not their real names!), and you might spot Kathleen's husband, Darrell, on site as well. Please take time to say hi and introduce yourself to us when you pop by. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. If you are looking for a specific yarn, tool, or class, please send a message. As a new shop, there is a lot of room to influence how it grows.

If you stay up-to-date about Lucky Rooster via the website, then you already know who is bringing their Trunk Show to the shop on Friday, June 26!

Meet Potion Yarns from Kansas! Johanna is passionate about color, and it shows in her work. (I've got an eye on the Jane Austen collection myself.) Yes, you may order from her website - but the trunk show is special. At this event you can feel the yarn and avoid shipping fees on your order...and, if you're like me, you'll want to smell the yarn, too!

This trunk show is set for Friday, June 26 from 2 p.m.-7 p.m. AND Saturday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Johanna and I are looking forward to seeing you there!

UPDATE: Tina and I are here and ready to go!! Thanks for being understanding this morning.

Thursday, June 18: I’m running late due to kids being at an outdoor activity that was cancelled because of lighting. I’m going to get them settled and will be to the shop as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, please visit my neighbors at Hermetheus (library cafe) or Park Street Pastry to see if they need help disposing of their treats.

Also: Malabrigo is here. You’re welcome!

The $40 class fee includes everything you need: yarn, safety eyes, and stuffing. Please bring a 3.5mm crochet hook; tapestry needles and scissors are available to borrow.

Sign up on the website: just click on "Classes" or "Upcoming Events" on the top menu to make your way to the class listing.

Late to post, but it's still good! Robin and Barb joined me in tackling the Tulipa sweater this past spring. We each did it our own way, and these are the results. This yoked sweater is worked top-down with stranded color work for the pattern (also called Fair Isle), which can be applied to many (MANY) other patterns.

All of us used Patagonia by Juniper Moon Farm for the main color, which Robin and I also used for our contrasting colors. Barb chose a variegated sock yarn for her contrasting color. 🥰

Check out Brenda's new top! She made the Sophie pullover with Juniper Moon Farm's Cumulus & Cumulus Matisse. This crocheted top worked up quickly for Ms. Brenda and looks just like the picture on the pattern's cover!

Well done, Michele!!

Not only did she make this lovely "office sweater," she did it freestyle (without a pattern)! I love seeing what people make - this just never gets old. Michele chose Huasco Coton Glisten by Araucania Yarns. This fi*****ng weight yarn drapes well, and the sparkle dresses it up for work and parties.

It feels a little witchy to say this: my eyes are sorted!

Kits to make two little mushroom friends are provided in the "He's a Fungi" class. You can choose plain black or glittery eyes for your little dudes (or dudettes) and each type is offered in two different sizes. Somehow the larger eyes make them appear to be better listeners. Who knew!
