Today we remember 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗞 𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗞𝗢, who died on this day in 1970. Rothko's work has left an indelible impression on millions of people. It is work that draws us every day into museums and makes us travel great distances for the sole purpose of communion with it.

The fact that art still exists at all is a steady miracle. It lives embattled, censored and manipulated, and still has managed to survive since people first identified the nature of their consciousness. It is the sincerity of art, rather than its fashion, that keeps it hanging on. It is only natural for honesty to be immutably compelling.

Many viewers have had transformative emotional experiences interacting with Mark Rothko paintings, the same kinds of experiences Rothko claimed to have painting them.

In his 1958 lecture at Pratt, Rothko's last public statement, he said,"Many of those who are driven to this life are desperately searching for those pockets of silence where we can root and grow. We must all hope we find them."

🚨✍️ 𝐀𝐝𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞: 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭!
🌲💚 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬
Last night’s community meeting was inspiring. Experts spoke about the hidden networks of fungi, the way trees support one another, and how the forest sustains an entire living ecosystem.
𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬, people sharing what Banner Forest means to them: a place of peace, escape, meditation, healing, mental health, communion with Nature, and even a running ground for local students. It was heartwarming to hear how deeply this forest is woven into people’s lives.
This is not just any park, it is a Heritage Park, 𝐚 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. The science seems clear: the forest does not need commercial thinning. If any thinning is needed, it can be done carefully and respectfully, without invasive logging. Unfortunately, the County’s plan prioritizes revenue over the long-term health of the forest. We believe there are better ways forward: ones that respect both nature and community.
🌍 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐊𝐢𝐭𝐬𝐚𝐩 𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝, this is a chance to stand for something bigger: protecting a forest so it can continue to inspire, heal, and connect us.

The Olalla Grange was the perfect venue for our festival experience, from the meadow surrounded by majestic trees to the welcoming indoor space, ideal for classes and activities, and the charming nature path where visitors discovered the Wishing Tree. 🌿💜 This local gem is also available to rent for your own events, what a wonderful place to gather!

🌿 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 – 𝗔 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 🌸
As we continue bringing new life and charm to the Grange grounds, we’re hoping to add a few more special touches — and we’d love your help!
We’re currently looking for:
🕊️ A couple of bird baths (any size or style)
☀️ Sun umbrella stands (we have the umbrellas!)
💧 A small garden fountain (electric or solar)

Every little detail helps create a more welcoming, beautiful space for community events, garden moments, and peaceful gatherings.
🌼 Progress Update:
Thanks to a few dedicated volunteers, the front garden beds have already been cleaned up and refreshed with a fresh layer of bark — and things are starting to bloom beautifully. More to come!

We are excited to help host a new "as of last year" Olalla festival. The Olalla Lavender Festival brings folks together!
