🌟 OVAC Grant Project Update - Q***r Tulsa

We're excited to share an update from Liz Cousins, a recipient of the Creative Projects Grant!

β€œQ***r Tulsa” is a photo exhibit featuring portraits of twenty of Tulsa’s LGBTQIA+ community leaders who have inspired Liz Cousins in her own later in life coming out journey over the past few years. Despite any complications it may bring, each person has enriched our community and creative scene while being publicly out. While our governing forces write laws that specifically target and endanger q***r citizens, these community members are just trying to survive, despite the feeling that people are identifying them as dangerous because of their sexual or gender identity. Each subject has also filled out an interview about their experience of living in Tulsa to bring their celebrations, struggles and the ways they contribute to our city to light and their answers will hang beside the portraits.

🌟 NEWS From one of OVAC's Fiscal Sponsorship projects - MaargaShobha: A Confluence of Traditions

Samarpahn Dances of India is delighted to invite you to MaargaShobha, a Bharatanatyam recital celebrating the beauty of movement, music, and storytelling.

This year, MaargaShobha will be presented across two different venues, each offering its own artistic experience. While the repertoire remains the same, the ambiance and presentation will create distinctly different impressions for audiences.

Each venue adds its own character, making every presentation a special experience in its own right.

Whether you choose one performance or attend both, we invite you to immerse yourself in an evening of classical Indian dance, live music, rhythm, and expression.

Sharp Hall, Catlett Music Center, University of Oklahoma School of Music

August 30, 2026, at 3:00 PM
Putnam City West High School, Oklahoma City

Bharatanatyam is one of India's oldest classical dance traditions, combining rhythm, storytelling, music, and expressive movement. MaargaShobha highlights the dedication of Oklahoma dancers who have spent the past year preparing for this performance. They will have the rare opportunity to perform alongside a live South Indian classical orchestra.

🌟 OVAC MEMBER NEWS - 4th Friday Film: Bill Cunningham New York
"We all get dressed for Bill," says Vogue editor Anna Wintour. The Bill in question is 80-year-old New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham. For decades, this Schwinn-riding cultural anthropologist obsessively and inventively chronicled fashion trends and high society charity events for the Times Style section in his columns "On the Street" and "Evening Hours."

Documenting uptown fixtures like Wintour, Tom Wolfe, Brooke Astor, and David Rockefeller alongside downtown eccentrics and everyone in between, Cunningham's enormous body of work is more reliable than any catwalk as an expression of time, place, and individual flair. Bill Cunningham New York is a delicate, funny, and often poignant portrait of a dedicated artist whose only wealth is his own humanity and unassuming grace.

Directed by Richard Press, the film was nominated for Best Documentary at the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards.

The screening is free and open to the public. A discussion will follow.

About 4th Friday Films

4th Friday Films is a film screening series in partnership with Pioneer Library System and Uncanny Art House to bring educational screenings and films to downtown Norman, Oklahoma. The films we screen are based on the current exhibition and are free and open to the public with a discussion following each showing.
