On February 1, 2021, Tatmadaw, the Burmese Military, staged a coup against the elected civilian government led by the National League for Democracy. State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and other officials are being detained by the military. This abuse of power by the military is in no way justified. This coup will cause a major setback for stability and progression in Myanmar.
Currently, protests are being held all across the nation and even across the world. Global protests are also taking place in countries such as Australia, Norway, Israel, Germany, Taiwan, Canada, Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia, Nepal, India, Czech Republic, and New Zealand. However, the protests that are affected the most are taking place in the heart of the conflict.
Peaceful protestors are unjustly killed by the police force, kids are bribed to commit arson and other criminal acts. Burmese citizens are taken away at night and stripped of their human rights in every way. Connection to the outside world is restricted as the military cuts off the internet and phone lines. We live happily in freedom, while our brothers and sisters in Myanmar are suffering at this very moment.
I ask you to stand up against this injustice from the Burmese military, for the sake of Myanmar citizens and for future generations to come. Join your local protests, educate your friends/coworkers/peers on this issue, donate to credible charities and use your voice in any way possible since our brothers and sisters in Myanmar are unable to. We will all unite against this! We will not allow history to repeat itself!
