Meet Amy Sillman, one of the artists featured in Clever, Quick, Magnetic: The Art of Witty Banter, opening September 3 at Oklahoma Contemporary.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1955, Sillman studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York and has become one of the leading voices in contemporary abstraction. Her work draws from painting, drawing, animation, and writing, exploring the expressive possibilities of gesture, color, and form.

Blending abstraction with moments of recognizable imagery, Sillman's paintings embrace experimentation, humor, and revision. Through layered compositions and an intuitive approach to mark-making, she challenges conventional ideas about what painting can communicate.

Curated by David Salle, The Art of Witty Banter brings together distinct approaches to contemporary painting, revealing affinities, tensions, and unexpected conversations among the works. To learn more visit okcontemp.org/wittybanter.
