Last week we lost a great cowboy and I am late posting this because it was IFR week and I didn't want to interfere with the social media campaign surrounding the International Finals Rodeo so I hope that Clayton's family will understand my delay and why I wasn't able to come and pay my respects in person. There have been many posts about Clayton Macom and his accomplishments in rodeo, from his riding days to judging and what a tough cowboy he was and how he touched so many lives. I would echo all of that and I had the pleasure of seeing many of his rides during his career but I would like to touch on a couple of things that weren't in the spotlight and most people don't think about. Clayton served on the IPRA board for many years, first as the Bull Riding Director then as Vice President and then served as the first Chairman of the Board after some restructuring in 2007. I was the President when he was VP and I always appreciated Clayton's strong leadership so when I began my position as General Manager I asked him to serve as the inaugural Chairman. It was a time that called for strength and Clayton took on the challenge just like he did everything else in his life, head on and full steam ahead. I will never forget the job he did and myself and the entire organization owe him a debt of gratitude. Anyone that knew Clayton will tell you how tough he was and he showed that, in the arena, when he battled leukemia and through his most recent health challenges. They will tell you of his physical strength and how intense he could be but I will choose another word to describe him "PASSIONATE"! He was passionate about standing up for what he believed in, riding bucking horses and bulls, judging, helping others, battling every challenge that came his way and he was passionate about his family.

Thanks Clayton for all you did for rodeo here on earth and the example you set for others to follow with strength through all of the battles you fought so valiantly! You fought the great fight and now you can rest in peace and we will see you again where there is no pain and suffering. Please continue to keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Dale Yerigan
