Every September 30, we observe the National Day of Remembrance for Indian Boarding Schools. Tonight, the Hall of The People will light up orange to honor the children who were stolen, the lives that were lost, the family ties that were broken, and the wounds that our communities are still healing from today.

The second Monday of October is officially Indigenous Peoples Day for the City of Oklahoma City - Government! Thanks to years of advocacy from community leaders like Sarah Adams (Choctaw Nation) and support from Mayor David Holt (Osage Nation), the city council voted unanimously to designate this special day for Oklahoma City each year going forward. First Americans Museum is proud to serve as the home of OKC's Indigenous Peoples Day celebration since our opening in 2021, and we can't wait to celebrate this official city day with you on October 12, 2026!
