She asked if the spiral staircase was still there.
Genea Vallion came to deliver flowers. She hugged us before she said a word, then thanked us for keeping the place open.
Her family built Val-Gene Associates. Herman's Seafood. Harry Bear's. The Hungry Peddler. Texana Red's. If you went out to dinner in this city between 1970 and 1990, you ate at one of theirs.
They also ran the Eagle's Nest. This floor. This room.
Almost twenty-five years since she'd been up here. She remembered where the old bar stood.
There are over 170 event venues in this metro. Most of them are boxes. This one came with sixty years of other people's best nights already in it.
