We are proud to share that TheDerrick.com will continue providing reliable, regional news coverage through a new collaboration between the Derrick Publishing Company and the Oil Region Alliance of Business, Industry and Tourism (ORA).

As The Derrick and The News-Herald transition into their next chapter, the digital news platform will continue serving the region — and in the near future, operations will relocate to offices here at the Oil Region Venango Campus.

Local journalism matters. Strong communities rely on trusted reporting, informed voters, transparent government, and stories that celebrate the people and places that make our region special. We are honored that the legacy of these historic publications will continue as part of the Campus’ growing role as a hub for rural development, workforce advancement, and community collaboration.

Since the ORA assumed management of the campus, our mission includes preservation of our heritage while building new opportunity. Supporting the continuation of dependable local news aligns directly with that commitment.

Excitement filled classrooms at Oil City’s Seventh Street Elementary School on Friday afternoon as students swapped Valentine’s Day cards, candy and small gifts while their laughter rose in anticipation of the final bell and a three-day weekend.

We are very excited to share our partnership with Indiana University of Pennsylvania that is bringing Paramedic training to Venango County! Classes for this program will be held in the Suhr Library on the Oil Region Venango Campus and will be in person with a local instructor and done simultaneously with an instructor at IUP. The Venango Technology Center adult LPN class wore pink today in support of breast cancer awareness. Honor survivors, care for caregivers, and always remember those who are no longer with us. Make sure you and your loved ones get regular cancer screenings. Resources, moral support, ways to give and get help, and more are available at cancer.org.

The newly launched Center for Community Innovation will be holding informational sessions for non-profit organizations in Clarion and Venango Counties. The sessions will discuss how the Center can help your non-profit with grant consultation, research and recommendation, grant writing, and fiscal grant management.

*Venango County - Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm at Suhr Library, Oil Region Venango Campus, 1801 W. 1st Street, Oil City
