At fourteen, “Jessica” wasn’t certain what type of career she wanted, but she saw a You Can Do It production at a Career Expo on the Cleveland State University campus in 2009. Fascinated by the dancers she saw, Jessica is now pursuing dance seriously through after-school lessons. Not only is she learning what it takes to make it as a professional dancer if she chooses, she is learning important life skills: discipline, persistence, and setting goals.

Our goal is to:
• Help heighten students’ self-image and confidence through participation in the school’s existing entertainment programs
• Encourage children to discover and enhance their own special talents and show them specific steps they can take to achieve their individual goals
• Show them the remarkably broad spectrum of careers that is available under the umbrella of entertainment—from circus clowns to opera stars, camera operators to set designers, fashion models to ballerinas, electricians to carpenters, musicians to stand-up comics, and makeup artists to the theater manager.

Our mission is to provide low-income and minority youth, and the school districts in the Greater Cleveland area and worldwide, which serve them, with arts programming, exposure, and exploration of career options in the entertainment industry, along with self-assessment tools with which to make informed decisions about potential avenues of career development in the entertainment industry.

Following a successful 28 year career as a classroom teacher both in Cleveland public, Parochial, and Birmingham school districts. Dr. Smith was inspired to create the ”You Can Do It Program” that introduces communities and school districts to the arts and entertainment industry.
