If you’re in Warsaw this weekend, come and find us at Audio Video Show.

We’re in Studio TV 6 at the PGE Narodowy stadium, with Sonus faber and McIntosh. The listening rooms are the stadium’s VIP suites, so the view out of the window is the pitch.

This is the 28th edition and one of the largest hi-fi shows anywhere: 262 exhibitors, 610 brands, 196 rooms across three venues. A lot of people outside Europe have never heard of it.

Lonny, our General Manager, is there all three days. He was in a room in Toronto last weekend, so he has earned a coffee if you find him.

Friday 12 to 8, Saturday 10 to 8, Sunday 10 to 5.

If you make it to Studio TV 6, come back and tell us what you heard.

Sony announced its new flagship Walkman last week, the NW-WM1ZM3.

The main chassis is milled from a solid block of 99.99% pure oxygen-free copper, then gold plated. The screws holding it together are gold plated too, chosen for low resistance. The solder contains gold. There are two crystal oscillators and a ten-layer circuit board.

Sony went through every part of this design, down to the screws, and it shows.

On their own list of components, running from the amp to the balanced headphone jack, is Kimber Kable. We are delighted to be a small part of it.

It’s a short run of wire, sealed inside a case, where no owner will ever see it. Sony has been specifying it there since 2016, across three generations of flagship.

Nobody chooses a cable they can’t see for the way it looks.

Has anyone here had a chance to hear one?

If you’re anywhere near Toronto this weekend, come and see us at Toronto Audiofest.

Two rooms are running Kimber in their systems. Haliburton, with Eversolo. Niagara, with Kennedy Hi Fi.

Lonny, our General Manager, is there all three days. He is easy to find and happy to talk about any of it, including whatever you already own at home.

Sheraton Toronto Airport. Friday 11 to 8, Saturday 10 to 6, Sunday 10 to 5.

If you make it to either room, come back and tell us what you heard.

Hero is usually the next step after PBJ or Tonik, and it’s our top selling interconnect even though it isn’t our cheapest.

Stereophile’s new Recommended Components list came out this month. Nine Kimber cables are on it, and Hero is one of them. It has been in production since 1997. When SoundStage! reviewed it that year, John Upton wrote that “weak components have no place to hide with the Heroes in the house,” which is still the fairest description of what it does.

Hero can be terminated several ways, including balanced XLR. If you’re running single-ended, the most popular RCA options are: our own UltraPlate, or the WBT 0114 Cu, which is the connector in these photos. The WBT puts very little metal in the signal path, on the principle that less metal means less to add to the signal. The Cu means its conductor is copper, same as the cable it’s terminating. UltraPlate is a more conventional full-body RCA and costs less.

Same cable, same braid, two different RCA ends.

Which connector would you choose, and why?

Last week we asked: gold or rhodium?

Enjoy the Music just answered. Paul Schumann ran both WattGate 381 outlets in his own system, one after the other.

His starting point: "We audiophiles spend large sums on AC cables and power conditioners, so why wouldn't we care what we plug them into?"

Gold: bigger dynamics, a lower noise floor, detail he hadn't heard in records he knew well. Rhodium: the same gains, subtler, plus what he called a blacker background. Rhodium is slightly less conductive than gold but much harder, so the contact surface wears less over years of plugging and unplugging.

WattGate has been building audio-grade outlets since 1999.

Full review at enjoythemusic.com. Thanks to and Paul Schumann.

Ray Kimber started WattGate in 1997, because he was building power cords out of 10-gauge wire and couldn't find a plug that would terminate it properly.

That's a WattGate Evolution on a PK14 Ascent. Most cable companies buy their connectors off the shelf. We design ours.

Behind the plug, 14 AWG pure copper, rated to carry more than a standard 15-amp outlet can deliver. The cord is never the bottleneck. Neutral, virgin dielectric, uncolored and never recycled, so nothing can migrate into the conductor.

PK14 is built for sources. Feeding an amplifier or a subwoofer, you want the heavier gauge of a PK10 Ascent.

Gold or rhodium? Which do you prefer, and why?

Every so often someone calls us and says: my dad had PBJ. Or: my uncle ran 8PR to his speakers, and I want the same thing.

The PR dates to 1979. PBJ to 1989. Same braid, same names, still braided in Ogden — still built by hands with decades of experience.

Whose system did you first hear Kimber on and what gear did they have?

Enjoy the Music has named the Kimber Kable NEO Series a Best Of 2026 Blue Note Award winner.

The award goes to a handful of products a year, chosen by the magazine's reviewers. Brett Rudolph spent the summer with the NEO-HB and NEO-CU interconnects in his reference system and wrote that they "simply redefined my understanding of what is possible from cables."

Every NEO cable is a hybrid of stranded and solid-core conductors, hand-crafted in Ogden, Utah — the same way we've built cables since 1979.
