Another reason to recommend Dragonfly:
Elaine: "Do you want pre-show music?"
Me: "I guess not, not unless you have John Philip Sousa"
Elaine: "I have John Philip Sousa"
Later, while I panic because I forgot to bring Hershey bars for a Hershey bar joke:
Elaine: "Do you need anything else?"
Me: "Not unless you have Hershey bars"
Elaine: "I have Hershey bars."
Are you a musical theater professional or student looking for private, one on one, dance lessons? Fellow Dragonfly Families,
I reach out to all of you to try to remember the independent and small businesses that will struggle to make it through this difficult time, as we all navigate safely through the pandemic of the coronavirus. I feel fortunate and blessed to have known Elaine for the past 13 years as my sons' (ages 15 and 18) piano and voice teacher (also cheerleader, supporter, counselor, tear dryer - basically like an extended family member). I was lucky enough to get referred by my older son’s kindergarten teacher to Elaine back when she still had her lessons out of her home. I couldn’t imagine she could work with a 5 year old boy and actually teach him piano, but figured worth the try….well, he absolutely excelled and she taught him not only to read and play the piano, but to also have the confidence to perform. Then along came my younger son (different personality, different type of learner) and she also worked patiently with him to foster his love of music and piano skills…only later to move to voice lessons with him to develop his singing skills as he continues to pursue his love of performing in theater. Whenever my boys would perform, people would ask who our piano and voice teacher was (if you have seen a play recently at West Orange High School so many of those amazing students on stage are her voice students). Elaine has always been willing to fill her schedule with all of the students needing her. We have had 4 of my nieces and nephews learn from Elaine weekly through the years and have countless friends we have seen grow phenomenally by being taught by her.
She has created her amazing Dragonfly Studio and is always so hard working, extremely flexible, and there for her students. Unlike other places, she doesn’t make you pay ahead for lessons and not credit them if you miss…instead she allows you to use it when it works for you. She is always super flexible with the kids and parents schedule, doing lessons early or late into the evening or weekends, so they get the help they need from her. She makes sure she knows when the students have auditions for their next shows so she can get in that extra visit or get them the music to practice. She allows students to take time off when life is too busy and works hard to get them back in when they are ready or need it. When I felt torn between my son’s school, football, and other extracurricular activities, she assured me that she was really just “coaching” him now so it was okay to not have lessons with her, but of course she was always there if he needed her. A true testament to her teaching is that my 18 year old son can read any piece of music on the piano and is able to sit down and learn any song he likes (a top radio hit, his girlfriend’s favorite show’s theme song for a prom-posal, or a song from a newer movie like The Greatest Showman). Also she has encouraged my 15 year old to write his own songs, even allowing him to perform these songs at recitals. I find myself often saying to my husband when I hear my children sitting at the piano (playing for pleasure, not because they have to learn a song for lessons) that all those years of lessons are absolutely the BEST money we ever spent!
Elaine gave them the gift and talent to be able to play and sing music so beautifully….a gift they will have for life (not sure I could put a price tag on that)! So I ask you to think about how this pandemic will impact Dragonfly Studios. Elaine has worked so hard to build up her studio, write and produce her own shows, and to open the studio next door to showcase so many artists in a wonderful smaller venue. Unfortunately, Dragonfly’s rent and electricity will still need to be paid along with other costs, as well as Elaine’s own bills, while a huge loss of income will just be unavoidable (since her kindness, pride, and generosity would never ask us to pay for lessons we aren’t using... unlike many other teachers and places that won’t be refunding money for services not received). So I ask you to possibly think about paying for a few lessons you may not use in the next month or to give the studio a donation (whatever money you may be able to spare as I know we are all going through this together) to help the studio stay strong, grow and continue long after this pandemic has come and gone. Hope you and your family stay healthy and please stay safe! An easy way to give help would be through venmo @Elaine-Pechacek
Thank you for reading this long post and considering keeping our precious “Dragonfly” strong!!

Last night's show was so much fun. Thanks again to Happy To Be Here and Playback UCF for sharing your gifts with us.
And with that, Let's Get Real ends its first year of existence. Wow! How did we get here already? 11 shows (please hold as we shake our collective fists at June 😉), 2 festivals, some road gigs here and there, and a whole lot of laughs later, LGR is just getting warmed up! We already have some really fun stuff lined up for 2020, some of which we can talk about!
- Let's Get Real will be back at our home in the beautiful Theater West End for 2020. The second Sunday of each month brings improv to Sanford's home for high quality performance art. We love this space and we have some very interesting ideas about how to utilize it even more this coming year. Stay tuned for more on that!
- Let's Get Real is expanding! We're super excited to announce that we'll be bringing four additional shows to Dragonfly Studio & Productions in January, April, July, and October of next year!
- Also, in case you missed it, Let's Get Real is coming to Fringe! At the 2020 Orlando Fringe Festival you'll get a chance to come sing our inspiration to us as Let's Get Real Presents: KaraJokeY was selected in the Fringe lottery.
Whoa. Just typing all that out left us needing to catch our breath. Which, fine, says more about our general cardiovascular conditioning than anything else but STILL. That's a lot of cool stuff already and there's still more to come! 2019 was an amazing start. 2020 though... that's going to be a hell of a follow-up. #YesAndLife #LetsGetReal
