Two different Zone Zero maps. Two different answers for the same street. That is why San Diego homeowners keep getting conflicting information about whether the new rules apply to them.
CAL FIRE's state map covers unincorporated county. Cities adopted their own local maps separately. If EITHER one shows Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, Zone Zero applies to you.
We built a free address checker that searches both at once. No email, no form, just type the address:
tomsawyerpaint.com/zone-zero
While you are there, the same page covers the part most people get wrong: Zone 0 is measured 0-5 feet from a structure. A fence running along the property line more than 5 feet from any house does not have to change. For most backyards it is the gate and one short section near the house, not the whole fence.
It also covers what materials actually qualify (fire-retardant treated wood does not), the shared-fence rule with your neighbor, and links to the official city and county sources.
Realtors, property managers, landscape designers and fence contractors: share this with your clients freely. No attribution needed, no lead capture pointed at your customer.
