A visit to the Walter Anderson Museum of Art (WAMA), opened in 1991 in historic Ocean Springs, MS, is an enchanting and unique experience. The museum is dedicated to Walter Inglis Anderson, American master, whose depictions of the plants, animals, and people of the Gulf Coast have placed him among the forefront of American painters of the Twentieth Century; and to his brothers, Peter Anderson (190

1-1984), master potter and founder of Shearwater Pottery; and James McConnell Anderson (1907-1998), noted painter and ceramist. The watercolors, drawings, oils, block prints, ceramics, and carvings by the three Anderson brothers are all represented in the museum’s permanent collection. Diverse changing exhibitions, many featuring the work of other significant artists, occur throughout the year. The museum’s sky lit interior of warm southern yellow pine includes a main galleria and two additional galleries, which echo the natural beauty and simplicity of its setting. Adjacent to the museum is the Ocean Springs Community Center, home of Walter Anderson’s largest mural. ✨🎆 Storyteller Spotlights are an extension of our monthly Words & Wonder program. This quarterly event is free and fun for the whole family, sponsored by our friends Biloxi Shuckers! Visitors will meet a local storyteller and participate in activities.

Please join us on Saturday, July 18, 2026, for Words+Wonder's Storyteller Spotlight at the Walter Anderson Museum of Art. We have invited Sarah Frances Hardy, Oxford-based artist and illustrator of One Mississippi, to help us celebrate America's 250th birthday by reading and sharing her book! Signed copies will be available for purchase at the event.

Mississippi Votes will also join the patriotic party to share non-partisan resources with the community!

And cut! 🎬 That’s a wrap on our inaugural Fisheye Film Festival!

Fisheye Film Festival, presented by Blossman Gas, brought together filmmakers, students, artists, environmental advocates, and our community to celebrate the power of storytelling and inspire action for our natural world.

From thought-provoking film screenings and engaging conversations to hands-on workshops and youth-created films through the National Geographic x Videos for Change Slingshot Challenge, this festival showcased the creativity, passion, and environmental stewardship thriving along the Gulf Coast.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, participated, and helped make this first-ever festival a success. We’re especially grateful to our sponsor, Blossman Gas (Blossman Gas), for their generous support. And also to our partners at the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center (The Mary C. O’Keefe), Crave Food Hall (os1515 Downtown + CRAVE Food Hall), and Film Society Mississippi (Mississippi Film Society) for helping bring this vision to life.

We can’t wait to see you at next year’s Fisheye Film Festival!

Due to weather, we’re moving the opening reception for Wide Horizons: Student Exhibition to tomorrow, June 19, from 5–7 PM. We hope you’ll join us! 🌿✨

Wide Horizons: Place-Based Education and the Future of the Gulf is a multi-year program that brings together art, science, and environmental action for 7th and 8th grade students across the Gulf Coast. Inspired by the art, writings, and philosophy of Walter Inglis Anderson (1903–1965), the program encourages students to explore the connections between people, place, and the natural world through hands-on learning and creative expression.

Throughout the program, students participated in field trips, artmaking, and experiential learning opportunities that explored coastal ecosystems, environmental challenges, and the future of our region.

This exhibition celebrates the incredible work created through those experiences. Curated by Antonia Zennaro alongside student curators from WAMA's Curator Summer Camp.
